I recently completed the singleplayer campaign to Conviction. This is the most unique splinter cell of them all. It's unique mainly in that this one takes all the protocol that restricted Fisher in past games and throws it out the window. You see, after the death of his friend Lambert and his daughter he pretty much hits rock bottom. As the game starts out you find out that 3rd Echelon, the company that Fisher worked for in past games, is now hunting Fisher and trying to kill him. Now that Fisher no longer plays by 3rd Echelon rules he can now use his abilities the way he(or you) wants to. That also means that he doesn't have the full inventory of past games, but you still get to use a handful that aid you throughout the game. This is what makes this splinter cell one of the most thrilling of them for me to play. Being able to sneak around the shadows and take down any enemy any way I want makes me feel more like a hunter than an agent. The gameplay mechanics work extremely well and very rarely had any problems with them. The game brings everything together and it is very fun to play. The story is my favorite of the games as well. The story delves more into the deaths of both his friend Lambert and his daughter. Everything is tied up and it is satisfying. The visuals are great as well. Im not going to say that this is the best looking game around but it definitely is the best looking splinter cell game. Nothing to complain bout there. I guess the only complaints I have about the game will only depend on the player. The game is pretty dang short. I completed the game in 2 days. I think my time was from 8 to 9 hours. It was entertaining throughout the game, but I wanted there to be more. The other thing I didn't like was how often the f word was used throughout the game. It's not like i hear the f word and Im immediately offended, but when it's extremely overused in unnecessary situations it starts to get old really fast. Throughout the game the enemies would scream it what seemed like every other word. Again, these will just be viewed differently by different people. I guess that's all I have for the game. I would recommend this game to stealth/action fans and fans of the splinter cell games. It might be different, but definitely worth playing.
What's great about it: new abilities are great additions, looks great, nice twist on the formula to make the game feel fresh
What's not so great: excessive strong language throughout, campaign is short

When I heard about Arkham City I was wondering how they were going to pull it off in a big city setting. I don't know why now but I was wondering if it would be as good of an experience as the first. Now that I have beaten the game I can honestly say that this is the best batman game. That's not saying much so I will say also that this is the best super hero game of all time. That's saying a bit more. I loved the first one so I immediately got into Arkham City. I will say that this is pretty much Asylum but set in the city. I am not saying that in a bad way at all. Why would you want to drastically change something that worked so well. There is a lot that is the same but that doesn't mean there aren't improvements. The combat has been enhanced and now flows smoother than the already incredible combat. Also batman has a few new gadgets that enhance the game set in a big city setting. Cat woman is also a playable character. I was a bit nervous about playing her character at first but I soon was loving whipping around the city and pouncing on unsuspecting inmates. The visuals are fantastic as well. Being in a big city I was worried about glitches and pop in issues. Despite the minor glitches that do tend to happen, I was very impressed how smoothly the game ran. I rarely saw any texture pop in and the game never slows down. Everything looks amazing. The story is awesome as well and it includes many different villains. I was happy to see that there were many sidequests that incorporated another handfull of villains as well. I definetly felt rewarded for journeying outside of the main storyline to tackle other things. To round it all off the voices for everyone is done extremely well. This is some of the most convincing work I have heard. It's great. The only gripes I have with the game are with the story and with the length of the game. Since it is set in a city I was hoping for a bit of a lengthier story. I beat it in around 25 hrs and thats with completing the sidequests and collecting a little more than half of the riddler trophies. The story was great and ended really well. I just felt like I wanted to tackle more missions after everything was said and done. I would still recommend this game to anyone. It's a Batman game for crying out loud!
What's great about it: transition to the city is flawless, fantastic visials, amazing voice acting, it's never been so fun and cool to be batma
What's not so great: a little too short in my opinion

I have been a fan of Deus Ex since the first game came out. Even playing it 5 years ago I still loved it and the originality it still had. The second was was great as well. I was way excited to hear that this new one was coming out. The bottom line is: if you are a fan of Deus Ex this is a no brainer. If you haven't played one before then this is a great one to pick up since it is the prequel to all of them. I dont think this game is perfect but I loved so much more than what I didn't. The story in Deus Ex is great. You are a manager of security for a company that makes augmentations for the human body: Sarif Industries. In the first few moments of the game the building is attacked and your character, Adam Jensen, is mortally wounded. He is forced to undergo augmentation surgery to survive. After returning you are sent out to find out who attacked the company and why. The story will keep you guessing and the influence you have to change the outcome is awesome. Through conversations you have with NPCs throughout the entire game you will have to make difficult decisions. I can't really say more without spoiling anything but how you affect the story is great. The game plays out like a first-person shooter/RPG hybrid. The rpg elements are lighter compared to the action which fits the game perfectly in my opinion. You are given a lot of freedom in how you tackle a mission. The augments you have can be upgraded to fit your playstyle. If you want to be a stealthy killing machine then upgrade the augs that allow you to turn invisible and walk and run more silently. If you want to be an in your face killing machine then upgrade your armor and weapon abilites. If you want to play somewhere in between ,like me, then do that. The game is very flexible. The game's visuals are pretty good as well, but its my biggest complaint I have with the game. There are many things that look great in the game but the NPCs are not one of those. Many of them look like they were from the original ps2. The civilians you talk to are not very well animated either. Thankfully, however, the main character had a little more attention paid to him and has a lot of detail. The enemies in the game are animated very realistically as well. The cities and environments look good overall but some of them are a bit condensed and hard to navigate through. Minor complaints. If youre looking for multiplayer then you aren't going to find it here. The game is pretty lengthy, however. I think I beat it in around 30-35hours. Unless your interested in going back and playing the game a different way or to see how different decisions affect the outcome, this one might just be an awesome rental. Overall I think this is my favorite deus ex. Everything is very organized in the game and it just feels like a very cohesive experience. Its a unique game and I recommend you give it a try.
What's great about it: great story, you choose how to play, good level design, feels like a deus ex game
What's not so great: no multiplayer, some aspects of the visuals look dated, some environments hard to navigate through, lame boss battles

I love fallout and always will. Fallout 3 will always be in my mind as one of the greatest games of all time. I sunk hours and hours into the game and its dlc. I was so excited to hear about New Vegas. More Fallout? Count me in. As I began playing it I felt right at home. The game played just how I remembered it should. I enjoyed the thought of exploring and new location and tackling more awesome quests. I loved the new additions to the game as well like the greatly improved buddy system and the variety of ammo types you can put in your weapons. Unfortunately, how it's so familiar to its predecessor is also its greatest weakness. It felt too much like a giant expansion pack for me. After playing the game for quite a few hours I started feeling like I had played the game before. The game still looks the same. Thats not a bad thing at all until you start running into the same glitches and bugs that the 3rd had. There is still very stiff animations, slowdown, game lock ups and whatnot. There werent any quest breaking bugs that occurred in my playthrough but the game just locking up on me made me too paranoid about saving the game and keeping a ton of them. I guess I was just a little disappointed that nothing was really done to correct these issues or improve the visuals overall. Other than that, however, the game is still a joy to play. The story is great and the quests are fun. The improved buddy system I mentioned is probably my favorite addition to fallout. Your companion is usually very competent when it comes to slaying your enemies and the best part is is that you reap the xp rewards whenever your companion kills something. It makes it very much worthwhile to tag along with someone else and if you happen to find a dog in the world you can have the dog and your companion as well. Theres a lot of killing to go around. The bottom line is if you enjoyed playing fallout 3 then definitely give this one a shot. You'll have a great time with this one if you can still look past the abundant unfixed technical flaws from fallout 3. If you didn't like fallout 3 then, first off, shame on you and this one will not convert you
What's great about it: more fallout, new amunition types, great story
What's not so great: lots of bugs and glitches, no updates to visuals, a little bit of a feeling of deja vu

I just want to get this out of the way. I didn't like the first assassins creed. It was incredibly repetitive and boring to me. After repeating the same play cycle twice I got frustrated with sitting on benches and listening to boring conversations. So much so that I returned the game to get whatever I could out of it. How surprised I was then to find out how fun the sequel was. Assassins creed 2 is a great example of how a company fixes their mistakes from their first attempt. This game is exciting and the missions are varied. Yeah, you kill and kill and kill but the ways the game sets you up to do it is awesome. I love that there are different mission varieties as well to keep the game fresh. The story is great as well. I really enjoyed the combined story of Ezio and Desmond. I was always wanting to know what happened next. Another big complaint I had about the first game was the stupidity of the enemies. I would just get a huge bounty then wait for a crowd of soldiers to crowd around me. One at a time they would strike at me. I would just counter and immediatley kill them. They just continued to do that until I had killed them all. I didn't find it fun. In this one however there are many enemy types. Some have heavy armor. Some have spears. Some have knives and are incredibly quick. They still arent all that intelligent but they definitely mix things up a bit and make it a challenge. The combat is also improved and much more fun to utilize in this game. I did like the visuals in the first game and this one is no different. The massive city you navigate is very detailed and fun to look over from a high perch. The only small complaint I have is that the game did start to get a little repetitive with some of the missions be a bit too similar but overall it is a very fun game. If you liked the first game then you will love this sequal. If you didn't like it like me then still give this one a shot. It is a much better game.
What's great about it: fun assassination missions, great side quests, variety of enemy types

I heard a lot about Bioshock 2 before actually playing it. The main complaint that kept me from playing it for so long was that it was too much like the original. Once I actually began playing, however, I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had with the game. I had been away from rapture for quite a while and it felt good to be back again. Adding to the fun is the fact that you are now a big daddy from the first game. Being able to wield a plasmid and a drill at the same time is awesome. The guns in the game are a blast to use still and setting up traps for splicers is as fun and pretty much as necessary as before. True, this game is a lot like the original. It's the same setting and your fighting the same enemies. What sets this game apart is the story and the context why you are there. Learning about the history of your big daddy character and how you fit in the world is a very interesting topic. The gameplay as a big daddy is also very fun and rewarding. Right off the bat you are charged with finding little sisters to help you harvest adam from specific splicer corpses in rapture. This is helpful because you need adam to upgrade your plasmids to make them stronger. That sounds easy enough but while the little sisters are harvesting the adam splicers are automatically attracted to it sending them right to your area. This is where setting traps and knowing how to defend yourself really pay off. This is something you'll be doing throughout the whole game while unraveling the story. Thankfully, it never gets old and is always pretty gratifying to see your adam count go up. The story in this one is also pretty darn good. Its pretty basic but i liked it a lot. I really like how good this game makes you feel every time you decide to do something like save a little sister. If you remember the ending of the first game after saving all the little sisters you'll have a pretty good idea of the feeling it tries to instill in you. The first game's ending is one of my favorites. Anyways, if you loved the first bioshock and still haven't played this one then you should definitley give it a go. It's a lot of fun and will bring back the good memories you had with the first.
What's great about it: compelling story, fun new abilities, still a very interesting environment to explore
What's not so great: some might find the game a bit too familiar

I have always been a huge fan of Bioware. Ever since I played Kotor I was always excited for what bioware was coming out with next. I was pretty excited to play dragon age because from what I could see the combat looked a lot like the combat in kotor. As the game started out I was having quite a bit of fun figuring everything out. The combat was a lot like kotor. As I got deeper and deeper into the game, however, I started finding a lot of things about dragon age that frustrated me. It got to the point where I was getting more frustration than enjoyment out of the game. I guess what began it all was when the game crashed on me not once but 2 times. Yes, you can save whenever in the game but the game takes so long to load up. A game just shouldn't do that. There are a bunch of bugs and glitches in the game as well that don't break the game but certainly are noticable. The game doesn't run at a steady framerate ever and the load times can get pretty lengthy at times. I could have forgiven those problems but I got pretty frustrated with some gameplay elements as well. One of the biggest ones for me was the friendly AI. At first its not so bad because the fights are pretty managable but when things get really heavy later on it gets hard and frustrating trying to keep track of what your teamates are doing. I fiddled around with their behavior commands a lot but I found that it didnt help all that much. They continued to keep being overwhelmed and sometimes even ignoring their commands completely. After losing fight after fight after fight I finally gave up. That kind of ties into the other problem I have with the game. It is one of those games where you kind of have to learn as you go. the learning curve is kind of steep. A lot of details about the game don't get explained so you are just left to figure it out for yourself. I constantly got myself into quests that were out of my league due to my lower level but I wouldn't be aware of that until I got into the middle of it. In those cases I had to load my game or backtrack to the beginning. I also felt like my equipment was always inferior to what I should have had. I kept the same dang sword for my whole playtime because none other sword i found was an improvement but my sword hardly did any damage to the enemies. Im not saying that this game is terrible but it just wasn't what I was expecting from bioware. I think i got frustrated because I saw a lot of potential that wasnt tapped into. I can definitely see how others can end up loving this game and having a lot of fun with it. In my case, however, I didn't have the patience required to micromanage everything and constantly be preparing for the next game crash.
What's great about it: an interesting story, interactions with party members, voice acting
What's not so great: mediocre visuals, unsteady framerate, AI is lacking

What can I say? This is a microsoft licensed product so it functions like it should. I decided to buy the controller to play pc games with it and it works great for that. I also put it aside just in case i run out of batteries for my wireless controller. That happens occasionally for me. The only thing i can complain about is what has happened to all of my xbox controllers. The joysticks get broken in and become loose or very stiff taking away from the accuracy of movements in games. I have kind of learned to deal with it with time, however, so it isn't a huge problem.
What's great about it: great for pc, no batteries, lengthy cord
What's not so great: joysticks become stiff overime affecting gameplay

I started playing GTA 4 again and I thought about how much fun I have had with the past titles. San Andreas is still my favorite. San Andreas is the definition of a sandbox game to me. It is a game that showed me that you really can do pretty much anything you want. The map is gigantic and full of variety. You want to cruise around a big vegas type city? Go ahead. Do you want to hang out in a small quiet suburb? Ok. Or do you want to go in the back country and jump over mountain tops or even cruise in the sand dunes? You can do that too. I was amazed at how this world feels real and it is fun to explore and see it all. Yes the game has its problems. It isn't the best looking game and it may have its fair share of technical issues but I almost don't even count these minor complaints. A lot of them are more comical than annoyances. The story is long and the missions are crazy and fun to complete. Plus, there are a whole bunch of fun side missions to earn extra cash and respect for your gang. These include but are not limited to: gang wars to take over turf, robberies, pimping, races, sky diving, and many more. Add in the fact that you can customize the main character how you please(clothes, hair, physic, etc) and almost all the vehicle types in the game(color, decals, tires, tinting, etc) and how you can upgrade your weapon skills in order to handle them better(dual pistols and smgs, etc) and you have so many options to choose from in how you play the game and you have one complete game. The voice work in the game is awesome as well. There are so many characters you meet in the game and all of them have their own distinct and interesting personalites and their voices are excellently acted. If you haven't played this one and your wondering if you would be able to go back and play a last gen game definitely give it a go anyway. I have kept my ps2 all this time because I pop this one in every now and then to play it again among other select titles. I think the fun in this game holds up after all this time. I love GTA 4 but was a little disapointed at how toned down it was. It kind of seemed like a step back for me in a way. Bottom line: if you want to play a game with almost limitless freedom to do what you want then definitely play this game. Even today, there aren't many games that offer the amount of content and freedom that GTA San Andreas offers.
What's great about it: story, characters, voice acting, massive world, so much to do, character and vehicle customization
What's not so great: bugs and glitches that come with a big game like this

This really has to be my favorite game of all time. I know I might sound like a fanboy but I don't care. This game is incredible. This is the first game that showed my what the PS3 was really capable of. Heck, this game is the reason why I bought a ps3 in the first place. Everything about this game is amazing. Polished to perfection. The first thing you will notice is the visual quality of MGS4. This game is still one of the best looking games out there hands down. You literally cant tell between the cutscenes and the actual gameplay. Its that good looking. While I began playing I watched a cutscene. Snake hopped out of the back of a truck and just stood there. I was wondering why the cutscene was taking so long and why Snake was just standing there motionless. Little did I know that I was supposed to be controlling him in this instance. It might sound rediculous but it's true. The game blends everything together so seamlessly that gameplay graphics are the cutscene graphics as well. The story is brilliant as well and it is told brilliantly. There are many people that say that this is pretty much a movie. While there is some truth to that dont let it scare you away from playing this game. Also, I cant stress this enough: Don't expect to understand the story if you haven't played any of the other MGS games. Newcomers will just feel confused and not know what is going on. The cutscenes are perfectly done and move the story along. There are a lot of them but not so many that end up watching more than playing. There is definitely a lot of action to experience in this game. The action in this game has been pretty much perfected. In the other titles there has always been a fixed camera. Not anymore. You free to move it anywhere you please. Also, gone is the frustration of only being able to go prone and standing to move around. There is a crouching position included now. The gunplay has been refined as well. It feels a lot more natural being able to aim over the shoulder like in other 3rd person titles. There are so many refinements in the game that I can't name them all. Like the AI. It is incredible to watch the enemy and friendly npcs react to different situations in an intelligent way. They will use cover and squad tactics to stay alive. The bosses are fun as well. They are some of the best, not only in the MGS games, but in general. As you can tell, I love this game. It so engrossing and fun that its hard to put down once you start. The graphics, the story, the voice acting, the gameplay, everything is done so well in this game. For those that haven't played this game, you probably haven't played much of the others. If you haven't then definitely track them down in one of their many forms and play them. And be prepared to experience on of the coolest stories ever told in a videogame.
What's great about it: some of the best graphics around, MGS gameplay perfected, camo suit, epic boss fights, everything
