Samsung JS8500 Series UN55JS8500FXZA LED Smart 4K Ultra HDTV: This Samsung SUHD TV continues to push the envelope of high-definition picture quality, revealing brilliant colors and stunning scene lighting that goes beyond standard 4K Ultra HD. It's also capable of connecting with apps, browsing the Web and screen mirroring with smart devices over a Wi-Fi connection.

Excellent overall, but some issues
By DREWFONSE
I bought this from Best Buy when it was still $2000. Overall, I'm very happy with the TV. It looks spectacular with high quality BluRays and some HD content. I have DirectV, which broadcasts in 720p. Some of the channels don't look great, some look really good. That is more a matter of the signal; going into the TV than anything else. It upscales well.
I play both PS4 and Xbox One games on it, and they look fantastic. There is a slight input lag compared to Plasma, but you get used to it very quickly. Game Mode reduces lag, but also reduces the image quality, so I don't use it.
Destiny, Star Wars Battlefront, Tomb Raider all look incredible. The TV's speakers are OK, not great/not bad. I bought a BOSE Bluetooth speaker which is compatible, and the sound upgrade is huge.
So far so good, right? The only issues that I have seem to have come during an automatic update that was sent to the TV by Samsung, purportedly to improve some of the Smart functions, etc. Since the update, my One Connect Box (you connect all of your HDMI cables to it and then connect the box to the TV) has started acting up. The TV literally will not "sense" that one of the inputs is on, be it PS4, Xbox, BluRay, etc. The only way that the input will pop up in the scrollable banner at the top of the screen is to reset the One Connect. Also, since the update, when I change inputs while the TV is on, that banner that lists the inputs will not go away unless I turn the TV on and off.
Also, that Bluetooth speaker that I mentioned before, the BOSE, has intermittently stopped connecting to the TV after the update. It does usually connect, but it takes a while. This only started happening after the update.
I called Samsung, and they owned up to the likelihood that the update caused my issues. They said that there might be a patch that would correct the issue, but that it could take up to a month to release it.
Now, I'm not going to let it drop, obviously, and if they don't release a patch that fixes this, I will be on the phone with them again. It's just annoying. I hate that you get these automatic software updates. Especially when an update is probably the cause of the only issues that I've had with the TV.
Overall, I'm satisfied, but I really hope that my issues are ironed out soon.

Direct TV 720 resolution
November 19, 2015
Dear Drewfonse! I have Direct TV and receive 1080p resolution! All you need to do, from your remote, go to settings and push, then select Display, then scroll down and select TV resolutions and push your select button on remote, now you have ALL the resolution options to choose from! Then hit exit on remote when you're done! I've checked 480p,720p,1080i. and 1080P! Your Direct TV Box will now broadcast whichever setting your channel is broadcasting automatically! Most are in 1080P! Hope this helps! P.S. If you ever want to check your resolution or change from 720 to 1080, or vice versa, just press down on the exit key and it will show you! You may have to do this 1-2 times! I have the Direct TV Genie box which has HD and HD DVR! Again, hope this this helps!
