I was shopping for a nice upgrade to my Mac desktops factory built-in speakers after 4 years. I was listening to the Logitech Z313 at only $30 on sale at my local Best Buy, as well as the Insignia sets, Bose and the Klipsch Promedia 2.1. The Insignia sounded kind of cheap, the Bose is just not worth the money to me, and the Logitech seemed the best for the money, even though the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 was clearly the best sounding - at $155 for the set, it was out of my range. I was walking to the cashier with the $30 Logitech set when I saw a floor display with the Kplisch Promedia 2.1 on sale for $140, so on an impulse buy, I decided to go with them since they were on sale. I kind of wanted to treat myself to a nice set since I was treated everyone else for Christmas. Lol. First thing I noticed is the box for the Klipsch is three times bigger than the Logitech set!
Anyway, I get home and hook it all up. Extremely east to set-up and the set is very well put together and attractive to the decor of my desk set-up. I turned it on and listened to some Jason Mraz. The set sounded great out of the box. Only thing I noticed was the bass was very loud and a bit boomy. It could be because the sub is located underneath my dek where the enclosure of the area may be acting as a bass enhancer in itself. Not too bad - just a little too much loose bass were it does not sound too balanced. Again, I am being very critical as it sounds simply amazing regardless. It does have a bass control knob right at the speaker, so it can easily be adjusted, but being an avid listener to music, I do not want to lose certain frequencies in my music, so I downloaded the BOOM app online which is meant to increase volume, but I used it for its built-in equalizer that can allow me to reduce whatever frequencies I want in the bass that can prevent the boominess of the sub, yet keep the other frequencies that make the music sounds so great. Once I set the equalizer to my specific needs, it was AWESOME! Absolutely perfect! I set the lower frequencies down a lot, then jumped up the mids and highs a little and WOW! I am stunned by the difference and it originally sounded so great! I saved my eq settings, then went back to the old equalizer setting just to compare and man-o-man what a difference!
I HIGHLY recommend this set more than anything else in this price range - and even up to the $250 price range! Sounds amazing, looks fabulous and very reasonably priced. Not to mention very easy to set-up. I also recommend using an equalizer (download the boom app or similar, easy to do and to set) as this will really fine tune things to your surroundings and liking. You will be floored by the results as I was. Anyone not giving this set high ratings just does not what they are doing with the set-up. As far as the longevity of the product goes - time will tell. But a BIG thumbs up to a great set!
What's great about it: Very easy to set-up - anyone can do it easily. Price point is just about right for the level of great sound.
What's not so great: Bass is a bit boomy, but a little equalizing got it just right.
