Read reviews from Best Buy, Consumer Reports, you name it for this machine. They are so mixed that I wanted to give my review. We have had it for several days now. Wanted to wait until we used it a couple of times and played around with all of the settings. I have to say I don't know where the negative reviews are coming from unless people are expecting this HE to perform like the older machines. We replaced an older agitator style washer with this one. At first it was scary. Thought we had made the biggest mistake. But after reading the manual (you must read the manual), we both are impressed with it. It does indeed use much less water and you think the clothes are not wet enough, but it gets the job done. There are settings to use to use more water. My son plays baseball with his church league and as you can imagine his uniform pants get really dirty. Did not think the dirt would come out and the pants looking like new but they did. We used the power wash cycle on these. We also believe that a good quality detergent like Persil makes a difference. Those that are writing negative reviews have not taken the time to read the manual. We have the page with all of the wash cycles taped to the wall behind the washer. Now as far as quality, only time will tell. I do not expect it to last as long as the older machine did. Nothing these days does. The new ones have so many sensors even though this one has the rotary dials. So that is our opinion of this washer. We love it so far.
This Hoover SteamVac features a SpinScrub multiple brush system for outstanding cleaning performance. The translucent tank makes it easy to view water levels.

Just purchased this cleaner and used it for the first time last night. It does a great job. This one is replacing another Hoover that we have had and used for over 14 years. Yes, thats right, 14 years. The old one is still going strong except for the fact that the trigger stopped working. I figured the trigger would cost as much as buying this new one. We looked at the Bissell (which cost more than double this one) and decided to stay with the Hoover. We also looked at the Hoover All Terrain but decided against it. (Built cheap, so was the Bissell). Too many plastic parts to break on the Bissell and the Hoover All Terrain. I tell you that our previous Hoover has paid for itself over and over again. No complaints whatsoever. I hope this one holds up as well. You really cant go wrong with this model.

on the extended warranty what is covered that the original 10 yr doesn't -- also do we need to use the high pressure water hose
Don't know what kind of extended warranty you are talking about but the 10 year on the Maytag only covers the drive motor and the wash basket. Labor is not included in this warranty.
