Ring Flop

The First Ring movie was a good change on things and was good. This however stunk. The dvd itself if you like this movie is worth buying. I just thought this movie was very bad. I only bought it to complete the fact that I have Ring 1.

Danny Cannon directs Sylvester Stallone in the science-fiction action film Judge Dredd, which comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, and a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. There are neither subtitles nor closed-captions on this release. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer. This is a fine release from Disney/Buena Vista.

Watch when really bored

Not a horrible movie, but not one too waste a lot of time on. This is another movie that fits in the category of watching it on tv when you are half asleep and nothing is on. Stallone does an ok job as Judge Dredd, the movie is just not that good.

Hellraiser 3 on dvd is a good buy. This is still a good hellraiser movie. They get off topic later in the series, but this one is still very good. Lots of gore and great effects.

The dreams of innocent children once again fall victim to everyone's favorite bogeyman Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. New Line has done a good job on this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Also included on this disc is a pan-and-scan version of the film. The colors in the image tend to look very well saturated with only a small amount of bleeding in a few scenes. This is generally a very solid transfer with even flesh tones and dark black levels. The audio is presented in a newly remixed 5.1 soundtrack (as well as the original 2.0 soundtrack). This new mix is very good with some excellent surround sounds filtering out through both the front and rear speakers. All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and music are free of any excessive distortion or hiss. Also included on this disc are English captions. The only extra features available on this edition of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master are some cast and crew bios, the original theatrical trailer, and some DVD-ROM content. While the video and audio portions of the disc are good, the box set of all seven films is recommended for true fans.

Freddy still keeps pluggin' along

You still have Freddy Krueger. That in itself is worth watching. The franchise does though take a turn here for the worse. Still watchable and fun.
What's great about it: Freddy Kreuger
What's not so great: The series went wayward here.

Another edition to the first-class Legacy Series of releases Universal created to showcase their classic movie monsters, The Creature From the Black Lagoon offers three films. Creature From the Black Lagoon, Revenge of the Creature, and The Creature Walks Among Us are each presented in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.33:1. English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include commentary tracks from film historians and genre enthusiasts on all three films, original trailers, and a detailed documentary about the history of this cinematic creature.

This is a good time. Kevin Bacon does a great job in this movie as well as Fred Ward. Tremors are nasty creatures that come from the ground. Find more about them and watch the movie. This is a good watch!!!

Like its prequel, the "director's cut" DVD of Aliens is packed full of special features, and is a very high-quality presentation of the film as well. Most notably missing from the disc's special features is a commentary track with director James Cameron, but this is compensated for by an extended onscreen interview conducted just prior to the film's release. Other extras include an extensive still photo/concept art section detailing every aspect of the film, behind-the-scenes footage, theatrical trailers, and best of all, almost 20 minutes of essential, restored footage. Technically, the film has received first-class treatment as well, with a beautiful anamorphic transfer digitally remastered in THX. Aliens won several awards for visual effects, including an Academy Award, and the disc's producers have taken great pains to preserve these visuals in as pristine a manner as possible. There is almost no spotting or pixilation on the transfer, and the colors are well balanced with deep blacks and non-bleeding lights. The soundtrack has been faithfully reproduced and remastered in digital 5.1 THX, which serves the many action scenes well and creates a strong, eerie surround presence. Between the excellent transfer and comprehensive extras package, this disc is the definitive version of Aliens.
