Sam Raimi's cult favorite Evil Dead gets a 20th anniversary DVD release with this title. The disc offers a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English soundtracks are rendered in DTS ES 6.1 and DD-EX 5.1, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital 5.1. There are no subtitles, but both English soundtracks are closed captioned. Supplemental materials include a commentary track with Raimi and producer Robert Tapert, a second commentary track recorded by lead actor Bruce Campbell, outtakes, trailers, television promotional materials, and a gallery of stills and poster art. This is an excellent disc from Anchor Bay.

Director Marcus Nispel's over-the-top remake of Tobe Hooper's unrelenting horror masterpiece arrives on DVD in fine form with New Line Home Entertainment's Platinum Series double-disc release of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, the image offers a near-perfect presentation of cinematographer Daniel Pearl's lush photography, save for some serious signs of edge-enhancement. Likewise, the English DTS-ES Surround Sound audio mix provides an eerie and effective grab bag of directional effects in addition to providing an ideal showcase for the shrieking, room-shaking buzz of the ever-familiar saw. Other audio options include English Dolby Digital EX 5.1 and English Dolby Digital Stereo Surround, with optional English and Spanish subtitles. Extra features include a music video for the Motograter song "Suffocate," television spots, and a theatrical trailer.

This movie fails miserably when comparing it too the original. When not comparing it too the original it is an ok movie. I would recomend it as it has its spooky moments and is gory. Over all I found it disappointing because I am a huge fan of the original.

Often lost in the morass of inferior sequels, Jaws 2 is actually a fairly decent follow-up to Spielberg's masterpiece. Now viewers can take a look for themselves with this excellent DVD edition from Universal. The picture is presented in an exquisite widescreen anamorphic format with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The film retains the soft, postcard look of the first film, and this DVD helps it to shine. Sound is a bit of a letdown, presented in Dolby two-channel mono, but it still sounds pretty good nonetheless. Where the disc really takes off is with the extras. Viewers can enjoy a 45-minute documentary that goes into every detail about the making of the film. Also included is a look at the film from actor Keith Gordon, who has gone on to great things as a director. He talks about what he learned on the film and shares a few anecdotes. There are also four deleted scenes, a still gallery with storyboards and production photos, a collection of shark facts, and the usual trailers, production notes, and bios. While the other two sequels in the Jaws series may not receive similar treatment, the first two have both been given an excellent presentation on DVD and belong in any fan's library.

Marvel Comics broke new ground with an African-American superhero named Blade. The movie adaptation tweaked action-movie formulas by mixing martial arts and not quite accurate vampire legend. Appropriately, the New Line Platinum Series DVD adaptation of Blade also contains some surprises. The disc has all the trailers, bios, and commentary DVD viewers have come to expect. More unusual inclusions: a 20-minute documentary on blood and vampire folklore, an isolated movie score with commentary from the composer (great for music freaks), and Blade's screenwriter philosophizing about "dark comics." The many features devoted to comics and vampires keep the extra features from turning into a love-in for the movie, though pure cinema fans will enjoy the printable screenplay, deleted scenes, and a look at an alternate ending. Viewers who also like to read and listen will be pleased, because this is a talky disc packed with information, interviews, and trivia. It all looks and sounds good (letterboxed, 5.1 Surround Sound or Stereo, original 2.35:1 aspect ratio) and is enhanced for widescreen TVs. The back of the box exclaims, "It's More Than Just the Movie." It certainly is.

For fans of From Hell who do not want to pay for the deluxe two disc package, 20th Century Fox has released the film in this single-disc format. The movie is presented in a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio. The English soundtrack is strong. English subtitles are accessible. The picture and sound quality on this disc are superb, making it worthwhile for anyone without interest in knowing more about this stylish film.

Great new spin on Jack the Ripper. Johnny Depp is Brilliant and this movie is very good. Distubing at times, but it makes you wonder who Jack really was.

Sam Raimi's 1987 sequel to his cult classic directorial debut Evil Dead comes to DVD with this feature-packed release. With extras such as audio commentary by Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Scott Spiegel, and Greg Nicotero; a featurette called "The Gore the Merrier"; an exclusive preview of the Evil Dead video game; still galleries; talent bios; and a theatrical trailer, the Evil Dead 2 DVD will not be a disappointment for fans. The disc looks and sounds great too. The impressive widescreen 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer is supported by a THX-certified Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. A standard 1.33:1 pan-and-scan transfer is also included.

John Carpenter DVDs done right are a pure joy, as evidenced in Columbia TriStar's Special Edition of the car-gone-mad Stephen King classic Christine. This release sports a new commentary with the director and actor-turned-director star Keith Gordon, and it's safe to say that it does not disappoint. There are people who pull off good commentaries and then there are people like Carpenter, who have literally mastered the art with a healthy mix of wit, filmmaking lessons, and adept interviewing skills. Here, he and Gordon meet on similar terms as professional peers as they share fond stories of the production and their careers while making their way through a nearly 20-year-old picture. A whopping 20 deleted and alternate scenes have been included on the disc as well, with most adding good meat to the film and others that serve as a fine example of smart editing. The fun does not stop there, with three incredibly well-done featurettes on the film totaling over an hour's worth of new cast and crew interviews as well as exclusive behind-the-scene photos. Literally the only thing this edition is missing is the trailer, which most likely was tied up in legal issues with other companies at the time. The gorgeous anamorphic picture presents the film in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, and its Dolby Surround audio track does a fine job with the dialogue, action, and Carpenter's score. This special edition is plenty worth it for fans of the film and those waiting for this solid of a DVD release.

The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible and the soundtrack is closed-captioned. This is a movie based off a Stephen story. The lower budget and lesser know version of the story is just called TRUCKS. I enjoyed Trucks actually more than the higher budget movie here. Anyway a bunch of Trucks takeover a truckstop an madness follows.
