I've never owned a GPS, but I have used them in the past. This model is very easy to learn how to use, re-routes quickly when you make a wrong turn, and gives good directions. I especially like that this model speaks the street names and will repeat the next turn if you missed what it said or were talking to passengers.
I don't like the search. It seems a little slow. If you are looking for a location based on name, the search takes over 30 seconds and doesn't always come up with expected results. The menus are also unintuitive. since they have to cram everything onto a small screen, you may have to go many levels in to get what you are looking for and may have to back out many times.
Overall I would recommend this unit.
What's great about it: Easy to learn how to use
What's not so great: Search is ackward
I would recommend this to a friend!

Can a GPS be used as a tracking device?

I own a TOMTOM and was wondering if I can also use it as a tracking device.
It depends on what you mean by tracking device. I own a Garmin Nuvi that keeps a record of where it's been, you can pull up the location history on a map (looks like a map with a squiggly line everywhere you've been since resetting it) But you can't remotely transmit the location that I'm aware of.
