I watched this in the theaters and then waited longingly for the blu-ray version. And let me say, it does not disappoint. The picture and sound is terrific and there is real acting talent in this movie. Of course Heath Ledger's performance as the joker is spine-tingling and awe-inspiring. Christian Bale reprises his role as batman and does an excellent job and Aaron Eckhart played the role of Harvey Dent perfectly. I love this movie.
For those complaining about the aspect ratio changing during the movie, this is because 6 of the scenes in the Dark Knight were shot with imax cameras so that the entire giant imax screen would be completely filled during key scenes. I saw it in imax and the use of these cameras provided a stunning full-screen image. For those who watched it in a normal theater the aspect ratio always stayed the same and didn't switch back and forth. Similarly, if you get the blu-ray version the aspect ratio will switch to take up your entire widescreen TV during the scenes filmed with imax cameras, if you get the DVD then the aspect ratio will always stay the same.
What's great about it: Great acting and story, fantastic picture and sound quality
