It's good once you get it hooked up

Setting this up was a challenge - I'm not a techno-nerd but I'm also not completely clueless when it comes to electronics. First, it only came with one set of a/v cords (red, yellow, white) - you need two. You also need a video cable - which depends on your tv type. The manual is terrible - I figured it out via trial and error. Once I got it up on the screen I went thru the manual to follow the instructions to set it up. I followed to the letter and got a blank blue screen that I couldn't get rid of. I cleared it back to the defaults and didn't make any of the adjustments the manual suggested. I read it and the toubleshooting part several times. I set the date and time and it works fine - programming is super easy. I don't have High Def and my picture is good. It's a good value for the price but be aware you'll have to spend another $10-25 on cables. Also, when recording you can't just whip a DVD in or out quickly. The first time the DVD goes in it spends a bout 45-60 seconds formatting and then when you stop, it writes to the DVD and then when insert a disk that's already formatted, you still have to wait about 30-45 seconds for it to load. So, there's a little delay when inserting and removing DVDs - plan for it if you're recording something long and continuous because you'll miss a few minutes of your show while the DVD prepares itself. It's not a bad DVD-R for the price and not sure if the more expensive models have the same issues but now that it's set up I like it.
What's great about it: Easy to set the timer, decent picture
What's not so great: Setup, can't quickly switch DVD's, manual is poorly written
I would recommend this to a friend!
