Series three of the new Doctor Who is very entertaining, but somewhat uneven. The season starts with a bang as the Doctor meets his newest companion, medical student Martha Jones, when her teaching hospital is highjacked to the moon. The Shakespeare Code has the Doctor and Martha back in time to foil an alien plot with the help of William Shakespeare, but after the first few episodes I found the season somewhat dragging. The end of the season more than makes up for the middle though-- Blink, with it's terrifying statues is probably the best single episode of the revived series to date. And the season ending three-parter brings back both an old friend in Captain Jack and an old foe with the surprise return of the Master. John Simm clearly had a ball in this roles, and it's not to be missed. I'll even overlook the silliness of the Tinkerbell- deus ex machina ending to watch Simms' master ham it up.
