Superb DVD picture and audio quality (which would be expected). The fact that the B&W version is also presented here is a great bonus. The movie itself fell short of my expectations. It took a long time to build up and the suspense peaked way before the climax leaving me feeling a bit bored in the interim. *SPOILER (sort of)* The ending is what did it for me. I hate the ending of this movie. It is not Stephen King's original ending yet he gave it his seal of approval I understand. I fully accept that in these kinds of films, a happy, warm, and fuzzy ending does not always take place. However, the ending had been built up as one of the most disturbing film endings ever. And it is disturbing, but mostly in that it is so idiotic and quite out of character. I felt completely let down by this cheesy ending and all I could do was utter, "oh come on, that was so stupid." For those of you who'll know what I mean here, the ending to The Village is better. In closing, your two hours would be better spent on many other superior films. I'll recommend this with caution. I think watching it in B&W is fun, but don't say I didn't at least try to warn you about the silly ending.

Great DVD Quality, nice extras though I would have liked more. Don't you just love the phrase "inspired by true events?" That can mean just about anything these days and I've heard it all when it comes to this film. This film seems clearly inspired by the Manson murders of the 60's but is not a true story as presented. Given that, the film does an excellent job of building tension in the first 30 mins. I saw this at a Midnite Movie pre-screen and the audience jumped and screamed a little bit here and there. **Spoilers **After the first 30 though, the characters start acting typically dumb but at one point they manage to get a gun while The Strangers have only knives and an axe. In my book, that's game over for The Strangers. But not in this case as the characters we're supposed to connect with manage to screw that up as well. How do you screw that up? Eh, watch and see, it's pretty silly. Anyway, the end really holds back and pulls all punches and falls completely flat. Another reviewer mentioned Vacancy. This film bears a lot of similarities to Vacancy, but Vacancy is a superior film. So give this one a shot and see for yourself. I understand that The Strangers 2 is already under consideration as well.

Definately recommended !DVD Quality is great, and the extras are appreciated ! Ok, I'm gonna come right out and say it...Halloween should never have been remade, but since we remake everything these days, who better than Zombie to helm this task? His junior film effort pays off as this is an excellent spin on the classic tale of old Mikey. Halloween is of course about Michael Meyers and Zombie elaborates on this theme by giving us almost a biography through Michael's eyes. My advice is, treat this as it's own freestanding film. Do not compare to Carpenter's version because if you're gonna do that, you might not like this. Rather, as a friend told me, treat this as the Michael Meyers of a parallel dimension or something. It's enjoyable and Zombie deserves an A for effort, so go easy on him.

I would have given this 5 stars were it not for the packaging. These movies are all excellent entries in the Hammer fan's library. If you're looking at this review, you're probably familiar with enough of Hammer's work to warrant purchasing this, especially for the price. I won't go into detail about the movies themselves as you can easily find that elsewhere. But believe me, they're all good ! The DVD quality is quite nice. Picture is crisp and audio is clear. Extras are limited to just trailers. For those of you who have been following the Icons of Horror collections for the past few years, you may be disappointed by the packaging, especially if you're as finicky as me. Both the two earlier entires in the Icons collection (Boris Karloff and Sam Katzman) came in cardboard outer sleeves with two slim line keep cases. This new set, breaks the continuity by being presented in one basic regular sized keep case with no cardboard outer sleeve. No big deal I suppose, unless you like your sets to match nicely when displayed together. Also, perhaps like me, you were able to vote for the cover artwork? I was glad my choice was the winner, however, the colors in the cover look quite cheap and even the paper stock feels cheap. Makes me wonder why they had that vote in the first place? To gauge interest in sales perhaps? In a year of rather lackluster horror offerings this is a true gem.

With 9 movies and a documentary highlighting the career of the great producer, this set is full of atmospheric treasures. One key reason for purchase is The Body Snatcher, based off a Robert Louis Stevenson work, which is the last screen pairing of horror greats Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi (although Bela's role is far too small). Any fan of Karloff and/or Lugosi needs this. Continuing pleasure for Karloff fans is the inclusion of The Isle of the Dead and Bedlam. These are not the greatest of his films by any means, but rather, a completist's delight. Honestly, all of the movies in this set are great fun. If you enjoyed the classic Universal Horror flicks, these RKO titles are sure to satisfy.

Just bought mine today. This is a great set for fans of the Universal Legacy series. Some of these are more obscure titles that I am glad Universal is releasing from the vault.
Every year we seem to get one anchor title included in a set with some not so well known titles. That's fine by me because every year I have something to look forward to. This year, I was hoping for The Mad Ghoul, or Man Made Monster.
Maybe the Ghoul will show it's face next year, but the Man Made Monster is here! Finally Chaney Jr's horror debut is on DVD! That alone is worth the price. But, two Lugosi titles are also inlcuded (Night Monster & The Black Cat). At that point, I was in!
This space age release offers a collection of five classic science fiction movies from Hollywood's golden age of nuclear fears and outlandish genre filmmaking: Dr. Cyclops, Cult of the Cobra, The Land Unknown, The Deadly Mantis, and The Leech Woman.

This is an excellent follow-up to last year's volume 1. Although this set really doesn't seem to have an anchor title (like last year's did with The Mole People) it is full of rare gems which I would have paid twice the price to have. Can't go wrong for this price!
Unfortunately, I don't know how long this one will be on the shelves as greed-hungry ebay sellers who know all too well how much the OOP volume 1 goes for have begun to snarf this one up.
Twenty-four years ago outside a small Texas town, young Kevin Reddle watched helplessly as his oilman father brutally slaughtered his mother before being torn apart by an invisible force. Today as the county sheriff, Kevin (Sean Patrick Flanery).

This episode opened season 2 of MOH. Throughout the whole 60 min, I found myself wondering what the heck I was actually watching? What was The Damned Thing?
Well, you'll have to wait to the very end to see "it" and let me tell you, it's a bit of a let down. Not what I'd expect from good 'ol Tobe. Actually to me, this was more sci-fi than horror.
A great story, decent acting and cinematography, but for completists only.
For call center supervisor Larry Pearce (Chris Bauer), listening is a way of life. His days are spent monitoring hundreds of tech support phone conversations, his ultra-sensitive ears attuned to every nuance of voice and sound.

Don't get me wrong, the concept of this episode was very promising, but it fell a little short and moved a bit too slow for a hour one timeframe. The ending didn't really leave me satisfied because honestly, it seemed rushed. Not one of the stronger ones this season although the acting was decent. I found myself even forgetting this episode existed until I heard it was coming out on DVD.
Recommended for completists of the series, but then again, why not wait until the box sets come out similar to those that just came out for season 1? It'll be cheaper and take up less room.
What if everything we believe about our sacred icons of American history turned out to be a complete lie? Suppose, for example, that the Father of Our Country was actually a blood-crazed cannibal? Jonathon Schaech and Saul Rubinek star in this gruesome tale about the discovery of a Revolutionary War artifact that proves George Washington's famed wooden teeth hungered for more than just liberty. How far will a group of homicidal historians now go to keep a hero's grisly legacy alive? Would our government deliberately hide the truth to cover-up the meat of the matter? a feast of answers - complete with huge helpings of human carnage - will all be served at this final banquet.

Ok, so the concept of our first president being a cannibal is a bit far fetched. But that's what is so great about this episode and the series as a whole.
I won't go into a complete synopsis here (the assumption being that if you're reading this, you fully know what the story's about) but I will say that this was in my opinion, the most entertaining episode of the whole second season.
One could honestly argue that the acting is poor, the film doesn't live up to the expectations of the "horror" genre, etc, etc. It's a fun ride though, so get your ticket and get in line.
