A Beautiful Mind, the winner of four Academy Awards, including Best Picture of 2001, arrives on DVD in a two-disc package rife with bonus materials. Disc one contains the film, which is presented in anamorphic widescreen 1.85:1 format with a Dolby Digital 5.1 English/French soundtrack. English and Spanish subtitles are also available. Extras include two feature commentaries, one with director Ron Howard and one with screenwriter Akiva Goldsman. Also featured are 18 deleted scenes with commentary by Howard, production notes, cast and filmmakers' biographies and filmographies, and DVD-ROM features which highlight never-before-seen footage, a behind-the-scenes look, and an insider's view of Universal Studios. Howard and his partner, Brian Grazer, introduce each of the segments on disc two. In "A Beautiful Partnership," the two discuss their working relationship. In "Development of the Screenplay: Inside a Writer's Mind," Goldsman talks about the process of adapting Sylvia Nascar's book and the research that was involved. Howard asked John Nash to explain some of his theories and the video recording of this meeting is the basis of "Meeting John Nash." "Accepting the Nobel Prize in Economics" shows Nash accepting his award in Stockholm, Sweden in 1994. In "Casting Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly," Howard and Grazer discuss their casting choices. "The Process of Age Progression" is a fascinating look at the makeup procedures Greg Cannon used in gradually ageing the characters, including the creation of a new silicone technique. Three final features and two deleted scene sequences are looked at in "Storyboard Comparison." Visual Effects Supervisor Kevin Mack discusses the "Creation of Special Effects." Composer James Horner and Howard talk about "Scoring the Film." "Inside a Beautiful Mind" is a making-of featurette. "Academy Award Reactions From Winners" shows backstage Oscar-night interviews with Grazer and Howard for Best Picture, Howard for Best Director, Jennifer Connelly for Best Supporting Actress, and Goldsman for Best Adapted Screenplay. Also added to the package is the more mundane theatrical trailer, soundtrack promo, and a montage of Universal movie clips with trailers and behind-the-scenes tidbits or outtakes from Apollo 13, The Family Man, K-Pax, and Patch Adams. A Beautiful Mind's extras end with a list of mental health resources and their web addresses. On the whole, this is one beautiful DVD release.

Award-winning film

The acting is excellent and the viewer feels genuine empathy for the characters involved. Some points are emotional enough to make the most stoic among us shed tears. The fact that this is based on a real life man only adds to the drama.

Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, 300 takes over the screen like an invading horde. With all the gushing blood of a horror movie and the scope of a classic epic, the second film from Zack Snyder (who helmed the 2004 remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD) is an impressive visual spectacle. Director Zack Snyder Star Gerard Butler, Tom Wisdom, Andrew Pleavin, Vincent Regan, Lena Headey, David Wenham, Special Features Widescreen Audio Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround - English, French, Spanish Subtitles - English, French, Spanish Additional Material Audio Commentary - Zack Snyder - Director; Kurt - Writer; Larry Fong - Director of Photography Trailer Runtime 116 minutes Year of 2007.

The story is not as in depth as Gladiator, but the epic fighting scenes make up for it. The cinematography and CGI are amazing.
