Depart Amazed...

This is a Great movie, though there isn't a plethora of action, it keeps your thoughts moving as fast as they can. You never see what's coming next as Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon head each other off, while working almost side by side. A great movie with a well selected cast.
What's great about it: Twists and Turns at every corner!

Whether you enjoyed John Q or found it preachy, manipulative and overly sentimental, there is no denying that New Line has released another fine DVD. The image, which is framed at 1.85:1 and is anamorphic, is nearly perfect. Nearly because while colors are very vivid, they do look a little over-saturated at times, especially reds, which are prominent at certain points in the film. Otherwise, it's a remarkable transfer with wonderful detail. The sound, with both 5.1 English Dolby Digital and DTS tracks, is also quite strong. Granted, it does seem to be more centered up front, without any significant use of the surround speakers, but the overall effect is still evident. This disc is another in the "Infinifilm" line, and the extras showcase how good that series can be. Just to begin with is a commentary track with director Nick Cassavetes, producer Mark Burg, writer James Kearns, actress Kimberly Elise and cinematographer Roger Stoffers. In addition there is a 35-minute documentary, "Fighting for Care" which takes a look at the state of health care in the United States. Granted, this might be a one-time thing to watch, but is obviously relevant to the picture. Also included is a shorter piece on the making of the film, which is more PR than anything, but still has some interesting comments on the making of the film. Finally, along with the theatrical trailer and press kits for the cast and crew, are six deleted and extended scenes which run around 20 minutes. As with all in this series you can watch these extras alone or while watching the "Infinifilm" version where pop-ups alert you to this additional material while watching the movie. New Line has done it again, producing a fine disc throughout.

Shows just how far some people will go to help those they love and care for, John Q, delivers a powerful performance and a moving plot; "An excellent movie with one of my favorite actors". Excellent plot, great acting, why wouldn't you want to see it?

This is a good movie with enough action to keep you entertained throughout. It starts off a little slow, but picks back up and climaxes with a decent bout between the aliens and predators. I liked this movie, but didn't love it, at least the kept to some of the original ideas of the predators/aliens. Not bad for a weekend viewing.

Not So Super After All...

I was really disappointed in the performances offered up by the actors and the writers of this movie. While some of the visuals and effects are good, the same can't be said about the overall execution and acting of the film. I was expecting a release that, at the least, lived up to the cheesy old versions of "Superman". If it weren't for all the new aged effects and Kevin Spacey as the infamous "Lex Luthor", "Superman Returns" wouldn't have anything on the previous releases. The plot serves up the same basic story-line as always, but with a couple minor new twists that have no effect on the inevitable "no-surprises here" ending. Overall, I wouldn't suggest seeing this film unless you are an absolute Superman fanatic.
What's great about it: Kevin Spacey as Luthor
What's not so great: Poor Film

The 2002 comedy Friday After Next comes to DVD from New Line Home Entertainment with both widescreen anamorphic and standard full-screen transfers. The English soundtrack is offered in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and DTS Stereo. Closed captions are accessible. As one of New Line's "Infinifilm" discs, this DVD offers plenty of interactive means to access the vast amount of special features. "All Access Pass" contains a trivia track and two commentary tracks. One track features director Marcus Raboy, producer Matt Alvarez, and writer/star Ice Cube. The other track contains commentary from cast members Katt Williams, Terry Crews, Anna Maria Horsford, and K.D. Aubert. "Beyond the Movie" contains four featurettes: "Microphone Fiend," "On a Good Day," "Ghetto Fabulous," and "Pork Report." Other special features include production design documentaries, DVD-ROM content, deleted scenes, extended ending, outtakes, a music video, and multiple trailers. This disc has gone above and beyond what anyone might have expected for a DVD release of Friday After Next.

Last Friday?

Craig and Day-Day at it again in the final comic release of "Friday". The month must have came to an end with this final release. While they've kept a fresh sense of comedy all throughout the series, I would say that they are starting to fade in this episode. Whatever you do, just don't watch all three "Friday's" in a row and you should love them all. The characters are awesome!
What's great about it: Hilarious! Uncle Elroy!

For Next Friday, New Line has once again done a great job on a DVD. The transfer, framed at the theatrical ratio of 1.85: 1 (anamorphic), is superb. Colors are sharp and constant and there are no defects. The soundtrack, which includes a lot of hip-hop and rap tunes, is good but not outstanding, lacking any real range. The surrounds in the Dolby Digital 5.1 track are rarely used, but that is far from a surprise. Everything seems centered up front, with clear dialogue and sound that is distortion-free. The DVD for the original Friday was a bit disappointing in the way of supplemental material, but this disc more than makes up for it. There are numerous highlights to this disc, starting with an audio commentary track. Though they seem to be recorded separately, director Steve Carr and Ice Cube talk about everything from making a sequel to where they each began. It also might be the first hip-hop commentary, as it has numerous moments of reverb and vocal styling done after the fact. It's a bit unusual and takes a little time to get used to, but is interesting nevertheless. Next is a rather lengthy featurette with a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film that includes numerous interviews with the cast and crew. A real plus is an audition tape for Mike Epps. While the video and audio quality are awful, it's interesting to see Epps, a stand-up comic without film experience, interact with Cube. An interesting idea that has been used on other discs -- watching the film with a small box showing the storyboards -- is taken to the extreme here as it can be done for the entire film. In addition there are bloopers and an alternate ending, some strange painting of the Cucamonga locations, music videos from Ice Cube ("You Can't Do It" featuring Mack 10 and Ms. Toi) and Lil Zane ("Money Stretch"). There are also trailers for this film, including the G-rated version and the R-rated version, plus trailers for Friday, The Players Club, and Dangerous Ground. Finally, there are some DVD-ROM features, including access to the screenplay. This is another excellent disc in the Platinum Series from New Line.

Another comic release in the "Friday" trilogy! This one is great; with a new problem, a new girl, and a new cast of hilarious characters, this movie lives up to its' predecessor.

Follow Ice Cube and Chris Tucker on their frantic quest to pay back Big Worm and make it to Saturday in this hilarious comedy, arriving on DVD from New Line Home Entertainment. Presented letterboxed at the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and featuring an English Dolby Digital Surround audio track with optional English, Spanish, or French subtitles, Friday fans are also treated to seven deleted scenes, interviews with star Cube, director F. Gary Gray, and producer Pat Charbonnet, a Dr. Dre music video, an Ice Cube music video, theatrical trailers, and cast and crew filmographies and biographies.

Great Deal!

These are awesome movies and the fact that you can get them both for the price of one is great! I actually already purchased the first one, but went ahead and got this one when it came out. Just can't pass up this kind of deal. You even get a free ticket to go see the latest addition in theatres when you purchase this little box set. If you are a fan of video games, and semi-horror, semi-action/adventure movies, you will love the Resident Evil Series!
What's great about it: Both Movies in One, Free Movie Ticket, Awesome Movies

Now you can learn how to be "money", and get some "babies" to take home in this hysterical buddy-film Swingers. The DVD is chock-full of features including a commentary from director Doug Liman, an illustrated action commentary with Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, a "Making it in Hollywood" documentary, deleted scenes, art and storyboards, and the short film Swingblade. Thank goodness it's presented in widescreen with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio and the audio is in English Dolby Digital stereo, there's also a French audio track. This DVD is so "money" you may need to own two.

Complete Disappointment

I picked up this movie because of the summary on the backside and I wish that I had spent my money on something with more comedy, like a republican debate or something. The critics rave on the back about how hilarious this movie is; I don't think I laughed once, which is an unusual occurance for a Vince Vaughn film. I definately do not recommend purchasing this movie. Save your money and get a better one.

Roberto Benigni's international hit Life Is Beautiful comes to DVD with a widescreen 1.85:1 transfer that faithfully reproduces the theatrical aspect ratio. Both the English and Italian soundtracks are presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. In addition to English subtitles, the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include a "making of" featurette, the original theatrical trailer, and one of the television spots created for the marketing campaign after the film met with Oscar success.

This movie portrays the harsh living situations that those who were persecuted during the WWII times suffered. The movie is about a man who tries his hardest to convince his son that they are playing a war game and not in a German camp. It is a very touching story, that leaves you feeling great and terrible at the same time. Excellent film.
What's great about it: Very Touching...
What's not so great: Best suited ending for this Movie...

how to hook up my pc to play files on my media player through the reciever?

go to any store that sells component to 1/8 inch or 1/32 inch (whatever your computer sound hookup uses). In other words a red/white to 1/8 inch hookup.
-
Take the red/white part and hook it into any slot of your receiver (doesn't matter if it is labeled as DVD/VCR/CD/V-AUX, they'll all work), then hook the other end into your PC. When the corosponding channel is selected on your receiver, and the music is selected on your PC, the audio should be routed through your surround sound system.
