So a couple of years ago I bought a BD-30 for my media room as my primary DVD device. I now have a huge collection of DVDs and a quickly growing Blu-Ray collection. Also, I author Blu-Ray disks with Camcorder AVCHD contents.
The BD30 has successfully handled every disk that I have tried, every: Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray home created, DVD, and DVD AVCHD. Panasonic has been great at doing firmware upgrades with the most recent being 8/2009 (today is 9/2009). From their website (www.panasonic.net/support) you download the new code, unzip, burn onto an data CD, put CD into the drive and it will take care of the rest.
As I said, I'm so happy with this, I also bought one for use in the bedroom's AV system. So, two out of two have worked flawlessly. Highly recommended!
What's great about it: Easy setup and operation, firmware upgrades are relatively easy
What's not so great: No internet connection, so BD-Live isn't possible
Blu Ray pressing. Executive Producer Steven Spielberg delivers the ultimate race-against-time thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat! Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) and Michelle Monaghan (Mission Impossible III) star as strangers ripped from their ordinary lives when they are activated as part or a high-tech assassination plot. Through blistering chases and shocking twists they try to escape-but where do you go when the enemy is everywhere?

A very strong action/adventure movie with a huge suspense element. This movie starts fast and keeps going. Its a movie where you have no real idea of whats going on until the end. It just keeps building and building. And why the heck are these two key characters forced to work together? Watch and find out. This is really a good and exciting movie and one I will want to watch again and again.
What's great about it: Non-stop action and suspense

3 of 5 stars for this action movie. If you take the movie Gone in 60 Seconds and combine it with The Fast and The Furious you get this movie. The basic plot has an undercover FBI agent (Erik Palladino) inside of a car jacking ring trying to find out who is Mr. Big. The car jacking ring has a rival gang trying to take over the business. Lots of car chase and driving scenes, but, frankly not too well photographed. So, alot of the exciting action driving gets lost.
Overall, the characters were thin and not at all interesting. Even when the agents cover is blown and they kidnap his wife, it doesn't get much more interesting. There are a couple of unnecessarily volent scenes that lasted much longer than necessary.
This is an average car movie. Better choices are any of the Fast/Furious movies or either version of Gone in 60 seconds.
What's great about it: Lots of car chase scenes
What's not so great: Zero DVD extas, uninteresting characters, average cinamatography
Kaos' stylish action film Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. Supplemental materials include a pedestrian making-of featurette that appeared originally on HBO, the original theatrical trailer, and an interactive game titled "Know Your Enemy." This disc offers excellent sound and picture quality, making it worthwhile for any genre enthusiast.

3 of 5 stars for this action movie. The movie opens with a child kidnapping and a chase of the kidnapper (Lucy Liu). Later an expert (Antonio Banderas) is brought-in to find the kid and get the kidnapper. The bulk of the movie is a cat-and-mouse between these two. OK, let me explain that cat-and-mouse in this case means massive explosions, vast amounts of ammo expended, lots of cars and stuff blown-up. Lots and lots of action and explosions and shooting!
Later in the movie certain character connections are exposed and relations change, the cat-and-mouse team-up to go after the real bad-guy in the movie. Oh, add lots more action and explosions including most of a train yard getting blown-up.
So why three stars? Well, usually I really like Liu and Banderas. In this movie, both characters were really thin and hard to connect with. In fact, in the whole movie every character is thin/shallow and not likeable. Heck, even the kidnapped kid had no personality. So, if you are into characters, this ain't your movie.
If you want an easy on your brain blow-it-up/shoot-it-up movie, this is for you!
What's great about it: So many explosions, things blowing-up and shots fired
What's not so great: Thin and shallow characters, thin sci-fi aspects of the plow
Fans of action master Jackie Chan will get a kick out of this DVD release of Vincent Kok's Gorgeous. The disc allows the viewer to watch a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 or a standard full-frame 1.33:1 image (the widescreen picture is superior). English and Cantonese soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English subtitles and closed-captions are accessible. Supplemental materials include an audio commentary by Chan, a "making of" featurette, a music video, and talent files.

4 of 5 stars for this romantic comedy movie. I am a huge fan of Jackie Chan. This movie is a bit different than his other movies; the focuses on the romantic and comedy elements and downplays the trade-mark Jackie Chan fights.
A village girl named "Bu" meets and falls in love with business executive CN Chan (Jackie Chan). The movie is about how Bu tries to capture CN's heart. Qi Shu played Bu and was wonderfully cute; how could you not fall in love with her! The dinner scene with Bu wearing a long blue dress was fun! Well, throw-in a mob-boss, some dumb henchmen and a few Jackie Chan fights and you have the movie. Specially entertaining was a fight scene with 4 silver aluminum baseball bats.
Filmed in Hong Kong and English dubbed audio. The voices were pretty good; though knowing Jackie's voice so well, it is hard to hear some other voice from his mouth. The dubbing isn't such a problem.
A truly fun, funny and entertaining movie.
What's great about it: Jackie Chan, Qi Shu's character is cute

I have seen both the original and this remake. I much prefer this remake as it looks much better (and more modern) than the original. Still I don't much like either version. It isn't that good of a sci-fi plot. I guess its claim to fame is that it was one of the first.
What's great about it: Created with modern technology, story updated for today

This is a really good fantasy adventure movie with two of my favorite actors (Jackie Chan and Jet Li). A boy finds himself in a different world and becomes the key to the future of that world.

This is the newest installment of "The Mummy" series (Brendan Fraser), this is my favorite of the series. With Jet Li (one of my favorites) as The Mummy and Michelle Yeoh in a supporting role, you have a great cast! This movie is almost in the league of the Indiana Jones movies. Great fun with lots of action and adventure. Did I mention the battle with the Yetti? This movie is worth watching!
What's great about it: Jet Li/Michelle Yeoh plus Brendan Fraser

Video game made into a movie. This is a fun movie with lots of action. Yeah, some of the action is too much special effects, but hey, it is a video game. I like Kristin Kreuk in the lead role. Nice to see her do something beyond Smallville. She does a good job of being the action lead.
What's great about it: Lots of action
What's not so great: Simple plot, too much un-real action

An action-suspense movie similiar to Speed (or Speed 2). A police detective is the target of a nutcase he had busted years earlier. The nutcase kidnaps the wife and the detective must run thru "12 Rounds" of actions to gain the freedom of his wife. Lots of good action. A good movie for a Sunday afternoon!
What's great about it: Lots ofaction and suspens, very exciting
What's not so great: seems like a rehash of Speed(2)
