Excellent tv

This tv is awesome! It replaced my 49" hd Samsung that I bought a year or so ago. I still have, but now in a different room.
The good:
Incredible picture - even up-scales hd to 4k hdr.
Easy to set up
Easy to use
All the aps you could want, Netflix, amazon, xfinity sampler...
The bad:
Poor base design. This seems to be a trend with flat panels these days.
No more 3d -- even though I rarely used it, it was a nice feature.
minimal remote, no key bad, difficult to use with clumsy hands and fingers
I got to say, I'm really impressed with this tv. The picture is stunning. Everything seems so much more vibrant -- even with just an HD picture. 4k HDR Blue-Ray is just stunning. It's really light, one person can handle this tv. It has every ap you could want, and the wifi is pretty good on it. I like the one connect box, you only need to run one cable to the tv, makes changing out connections super easy. The only serious negative I have about this tv is the stand solution. If you are not wall mounting it, make sure you have straps to keep it upright -- especially if you have adventurous cats. The remote is horrible, but a step up from the previous model I had. Samsung is no longer doing 3d. While I used that feature rarely, it was a nice option to have. Not that big of a deal now since Comcast is no longer offering 3d options. My biggest complaint is lack of 4k content. I know this isn't Samsungs fault so no deduction for that. My knocking off a star is more about the stand and remote. Overall, I'd highly recommend this model. It was actually cheaper then the 3d hd tv I bought the other year.

Excellent Tv - but Garbage In Garbage Out
on July 8, 2015

This tv is excellent! It is huge, but not terribly heavy, just needs two people to handle due to the size. It puts out virtually no heat. This tv really needs to be wall-mounted and paired with a high end surround sound system.
The pros:
-Large beautiful screen.
-Upscales to 4k - see cons for more
-Has a hub that removes the inputs from the back of the tv.
-Will screen 4k in Netflix.
-Has both wifi and hardwired connections.
-System menus are easy to navigate and find what you are looking for.
-3D is incredible on this. I found that 3D really relies on a large screen. The difference in watching 3d between this tv, and it's smaller 48" grandfather is like night and day.
Cons:
-If you have a Home Theater set up#and you should if you get this#, you will need a good universal remote like the harmony remotes. Make sure you disable HDMIC. HDMIC caused me a huge headache.
-The Harmony 900 will work with this tv, but I was never able to get the tv to stay on when switching activities. The TV would always turn off and not back on. I think this is more of a Logitech issue. I upgraded to the new Harmony One Home Control remote, and it now works flawlessly. I'm still not happy with the new remote. #A whole different review later#
-Garbage in Garbage out! This tv does an excellent job upscaling HD to 4k. However, going from SD to 4k still looks horrible. It's better then not upscaling at all. But, the size of this just makes it really bad. DVD's both original and blue ray look great.
-No 3d glasses. I mean seriously, almost 5000$ and not even one pair of glasses? My 48" came with two.
This tv is solid. I'd love to give this a 4.5 to 5 rating, but having to buy a new remote prevents me from giving it a 5. The picture is excellent, easy to adjust, and really has given me a much more enjoyable tv screen to watch.
Other thoughts
-If you have Comcast and X1, make sure your box is set to output 1020I or P. Your box will reset often and it will always go back to 720. This isn't the TV's fault but Comcast. So if you notice you picture seems off, check the setting on the box.

Simply excellence!

This is my first time playing a game in the Diablo series. Never played it on any platform. And I gotta say, I didn't know what I was missing. The battles are just insane. I was a bit discouraged at first. I wasn't familiar with the game mechanics, button commands etcetera, I got killed a couple of times at low level. But you level up, and it's even with the pace of the game. I am about half way through it, and I haven't felt bored or over powered yet.
You do have to manage your inventory very closely. You can only carry 60 items at a time. So you quickly break any hoarding habits you might have. If you are like me and hate leaving loot in a dungeon, you can usually go pick it up after making a trip back to the base camp. So far, I've been splitting salvaging and selling the loot, and I seem to be doing rather well that way. make sure that you repair your equipment regularly.
The graphics are incredible! I read a review that the frame rate can drop on the Xbox One version, but I can't tell at all if it does happen. Everything is fast moving and butter smooth. Loads are very quick. In fact, I don't mind area loads at all, they seem to happen within seconds.
I really like Dragon Age Origins, and this game reminds me a lot of that game. I highly recommend it.

Great TV, but took a while to get it to play nice

Internet Connectable?Yes
Connected to the Internet:Yes
I'll start with the good stuff. The picture is amazing. It's large, light weight, the stand is substantial compared to the Sony in the same size. You don't really need the mounting straps, but after my cat knocked over my 2 month old sony, I put it on anyway. It's easy to set up. The menus are intuitive. 3D was beautiful, but it really needs a larger screen for better affect. Glasses are light. Channel up and down, pause and play works great with the X1 box.
Now for the bad stuff, and why I knocked a star off. My system includes an X1 cable box from Comcast, a Xbox One, and a Sony blue ray home theater in a box. I have my hdmi out from X1 going to my hdmi in to the Xbox One, to the hdmi input 1 on my surround sound, to the HDMI 1 (ARC) on my tv. It worked flawlessly on the Sony that this tv replaced. I turned on my xbox, my tv would turn on, my surround sound would turn on, and everything was on the correct input. Volume and channel controls worked great with the X1 remote.
After setting up the Samsung tv and enabling ARC control, when the tv turns on, the surround sound would switch from HDMI 1 input to TV input. There was no way to change this behavior. It took a day or two to figure out, but I had to reroute the HDMI cable from the input on the surround sound to HDMI 1 on the tv, route the output of the surround sound to HDMI 2 on the tv, and then run an optical cable from optical out on the tv, to optical in on the surround sound. Now everything works great, but the cabling is much messier. And you can't set the output to dolby digital.
The remote is horrible. I can appreciate the touch pad on the remote. And I can appreciate the remote functioning as a pointer when interacting with the TV's menus. However, if I'm using the touch pad, it should disable the pointer like function and vice-versa. It makes for selecting a menu option difficult. The remote also lacks a number pad. While it makes for a very comfortable form in your hand, it also makes it very difficult to use. If you want to tune directly to a channel, you have pull up the number pad on the tv, and then select the channel you want. The design of this remote is horrible.
The tv does 3d well, but you really need a larger screen size to get a better 3d affect. I watched Pompeii in 3D mode, and while the tv did a very good job at rendering scenes, there were parts where you could tell the affect was meant to have a larger scale. Like embers floating around, it was limited to the screen size, it didn't fill your entire view.
Also, I'm not sure if it's because of the setup I have, but if I ordered a movie through Comcast, I had to manually turn on the 3D mode on the tv, and then turn on the glasses. Which brings me to another problem...the button to turn the glasses on is very small, and almost flush. Also, the glasses are powered by a small cr2016 battery that really doesn't last very long. I'd much rather have a pair of glasses with a rechargeable batter. I think I'm going to try a pair of active 3d glasses from NVidia.
All in all, I'd recommend this tv. It's a nice tv, if on the pricey side. The tv is quiet, cool, light, has a great stand. But I'd also warn people to look at their entire entertainment center. I don't know if a Samsung receiver would have the same issue with the changing input or not. You might also want to consider getting a Harmony remote for this, since the remote can be a challenge.

Awesome Speaker Set
on May 12, 2010

I bought these speakers last week and have been using them for a week now on my desktop. It had been so long since I actually had base on my desktop that I forgot what it was like. These speakers kick some serious butt. You will get a full enriched sound with volume not even set at 25%. The recommnended sub-woofer setting is more the enough for almost anything. The price is high for a 2.1 set-up, but it is well worth it! Definately better then the sets by one company that sell for 299 and 399.
What's great about it: The sound on these is incredible!
What's not so great: The price. For a 2.1 system, it's a bit pricey but well worth it.

Do I need a smart tv if I get a smart blue ray player.

I got the latest blueray player from sony that has aps around Christmas. It will play Netflix without issue. However, when I got this tv, I wanted to try 4k streaming. Netflix on the player did not offer me 4k streams, but the ap on the tv does. So, if you don't want to stream 4k content, then no you don't a smart tv. But if you do want 4k content (and for this size you do), you do.
