A movie like Galaxy Quest manages to poke fun at a wide range of people but still be lovable and sympathetic at the same time. Ultimately, though, Galaxy Quest works not just as a parody film, It works as a basic space adventure as well. Strip away all the jokes, gags and silliness, and you still have an exciting film about a rag-tag group of explorers fighting for justice in the galaxy.

Still fun to watch, The satire is biting, the jokes crude but cutting. Of course, the profanity is over the top. . This was a great movie, just like the TV show, and I would watch if they made another one. If you have never watched Southpark this may not be the movie for you.

Something of a suprise

The film works fairly well. The funny bits are funny and the scary bits are... well, I guess they could unnerve some people. Burton's usual color scheme is in effect, so expect a lot of dark colors with red highlights. The cinematography was a pleasant surprise, as the shots tend to be very much in the style of old Hammer Horror films (Horror film buffs should keep an eye out for shots that resemble some of your old favorites). The soundtrack is a nice mix of Danny Elfman's score and 70s rock. This is used to great effect throughout the movie (most notably Nights in White Satin).
The film is not Burton's best, nor is it Depp's (Both of which would be Ed Wood in my opinion). It is an entertaining film, nothing particularly special... but there's a sense of nostalgia to it... Both for fans of the show and old Burton fans.

No warm and fuzzy Tom Hanks here

Normally I write fairly long reviews, but I think I can get through this one pretty quickly. The plot of 'Road to Perdition' is not especially remarkable. It involves well-worn themes from Mafia films like honor, revenge, family and the desire to get away from this violent world, and the characters are nothing particularly new either. (Tom Hanks is the cold, workmanlike killer, Daniel Craig the crazy wild card protected by his position as the son of Paul Newman, who is the surprisingly warm and kind mafia boss who is, nevertheless, utterly ruthless at heart etc.) There's certainly nothing wrong with this plot, and it has some fine lines and a few particularly affecting scenes, but it's nothing to get to overly worked up over. Still, the sheer craft displayed herein makes the film remarkable. The performances are all perfect, the score, while perhaps overly conventional, is powerful and emotive, the cinematography is consistently stunning and the period detail is utterly convincing. Again, this is a world we've seen before, but it's more fully realized then ever before, and it makes the film nearly mesmerizing even in the scenes where little is actually going on. Also, there's one scene late in the film, a firefight in the streets during fierce storm, which is simply breath taking. It's definitely one of the most powerful examples of pure cinema I've seen in a long time.

This movie was wonderfully done. They recreated points in history that looked amazing. The special effects of reverse aging looked incredible, to the point where you almost wanted to skip ahead just to see how it would turn out. The acting is phenomenal and the story sucks you right in. This was a tremendous film and definitely worth owning.
