I passed up watching this movie a number of times because it had the look of one of those mainstream movies trying to be indie. But Ryan Gossling pretty much can do no wrong in my eyes so on a slow night I figured it was worth a shot.
The movie surpassed my expectations. It's rare to find something "heartwarming" that doesn't make you as sick to your stomach as a big bowl of "chicken soup for the anything" would. But this one just makes you chuckle and love Ryan Gossling all the more. Emily Mortimer is pretty perfect, too, managing to balance that waif-ish in a likeable way.
I suppose you could make an argument that you know where this is headed pretty early on, but there's a lot of movies like that and this has some nice subtleties you don't expect and either way, it's nice to be taken on a fun ride even if you know where you are going.
The nice part of the script (other than the premise) is the way the entire community responds. It'd be easy to make this chalk-full of stock humor, but the comedy is better when you watch the whole town come together.
Patricia Clarkson shines. All performances are played out in an understated way, which is what saves this from feeling trite.
What's great about it: Ryan Gossling, Ryan Gossling, Ryan Gossling.
What's not so great: You sort of know what's going to happen early on.

I just got this and have fallen in love with it. It is a great way to keep track of your running. In the past I have sometimes opted for the treadmill as opposed to outdoor running because I wanted to know my pace, etc...but this little gadget does all that for just around thirty dollars, which is a lot more reasonable than those ultra hith-tech watches (which are great for those who are serious, but not worth the money for those amateurs like me!)
I can say this was dead on with mileage because I ran a loop that I knew the count of.
There are a lot of options for this in terms of downloading workouts, tracking progress online, and more.
At first I was a bit disappointed it didn't give my mile split, however, it did give my best mile, so it may do this when I download it.
Best yet, Lance Armstrong came on at the end of my run and congratulated me!
This is worth the money, and btw, you *do not* need the nike shoes, just get the pouch or make your own! I did that because I couldn't wait to try it out, but the pouches are very cheap and I'm sure the best bet!
Easily boil water or brew your favorite tea with no need to use your stovetop with this electric kettle that features a 1500-watt heating base for quick warming and a large 54-ounce reservoir capacity.

I found this while looking for a replacement for an old Russel Hobbes electric kettle. Turns out the Russell Hobbes aren't made the same as they used to be, so I looked for something with similar durability and metal as opposed to the mostly plastic electric kettles out there.
I stumbled upon the Breville and was only disappointed that it was (in my mind) a little high. In the end I was probably wrong, the Cuisinart was more and less appealing aesthetically.
This is a great way to have tea, coffee (thanks to my breville, I moved to a coffee press), oatmeal, you name it.
And, I hate to admit it but one of my favorite things is the blue illuminated light and pleasent "ding" when the water is done!
It feels nice and durable and after about a year I still haven't had to de-scale it or anything like that!
What's great about it: looks great, works like a charm, doesn't take up too much space
What's not so great: Cant think of any except I wish it were about $10 cheaper

This movie was a surprise to me. The trailer looked totally corny, but since Morgan Freeman was in it, I thought I'd give it a shot.
It was well worth it. Although I'm a bit tired of the several lives that intertwine theme of the past few years, this one is well-done and the conncetions are tight and believeable.
There are some happy endings, but none to the point where it ruins the reality of life and though things are tied up in a fairly neat bow by the end, it's not without some bittersweet sentiments.
Morgan Freeman steals the show, but the other actors hold their own.
What's great about it: tender without being "pollyana-ish"
What's not so great: intertwining of lives plot a bit overdone
The Girl Next Door stars Emile Hirsch (The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) as a high-school guy who finds his world turned upside down when he discovers the beautiful new girl living next door is an adult-film star. Before long, he and his friends are in the middle of a coming-of-age experience like no other. One of two DVD releases for the film, this disc includes the original R-rated version of the film shown in theaters, but is packed with racy unrated bonuses. Both widescreen and full-screen transfers are available on the disc along with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. English or Spanish subtitles and Spanish- and French-dubbed audio tracks are also included. Along with the film itself, there is a feature-length audio commentary track by director Luke Greenfield, a behind-the-scenes featurette, and a trivia track. The unrated features include a gaggle of deleted and extended scenes, a blooper reel, two more featurettes, and a sexy image gallery. An R-rated version of the disc was released simultaneously without the unrated supplemental material.

This is a funny movie with some not-so-subtle points and a few good plot twists. Emil Hirsch is perfectly cast and a great "everyman" hero. I couldn't help but compare this to "Risky Business."

I didn't really want to like this cd because I just feel like the original Beatles' songs were perfect as is. But, the movie was one of the best out that year, and when my daughter wanted the cd I have to admit that I enjoyed listening to it. My only criticism is that some of the female ballads come off a little too syrupy. But, other covers are great and overall it is an enjoyable cd!
What's great about it: Reminds you of the movie
What's not so great: Some of the songs a little "high school musical-ish"

It's always a pleasure to watch a Rodney Yee yoga video; he manages to make something with broad appeal without sacrificing solid yoga standards.
This workout is a nice change of pace, it flows perfectly at a steady pace and gives you a good, deep muscle stretch.
Another plus is that the dvd can be viewed multiple times without too much irritation...you don't hear too many things stated for the first-time user that drive you nuts on subsequent viewings ( a major issue with some workout tapes! )
Do set aside the full hour for this one, sadly I sometimes don't do it because I don't have time, which is my own bad judgement!
There's not much bad to say about any of these Rodney Yee yoga workouts except that maybe it is too easy to just want to *watch* how perfectly he does each posture and marvel that someone can be that graceful.
What's great about it: Rodney Yee, Profressional Production, thorough
What's not so great: no cons, but you should know the basics before doing this

This phone is the first cell phone I've actually liked. In fairness, my previous phone was a clunker I bought off of ebay to tide me over until I could get off of my contract with another carrier. So, anything was a step up. I just got this today and have already texted like a madman and added all my contacts, talked to some friends on verizon (free for verizon to verizon btw) and spun the spin wheel around a million times. The touchpad does take a little getting used to, you have to remind yourself you can't have more than one finger on it at a time. Plus it is a little sensitive, but you can adjust these settings and i'm already getting the hang of it. I am slightly worried that the thing slides open a little too easily, but mayber there is a lock I have not found. The screen is great and it is very easy to scroll through text messages. Verizon customer service has been amazing. I initially ordered a different phone, but when it came I hated it. They let me take that one back to the store then order this one at the promotional rate. The chocolate is almost as good as, dare I say it? Chocolate.
What's great about it: small, great screen, no flip hinge to worry about
What's not so great: slides open a little too easily, touch pad kind of sensitive
