-----------2001: A Space Odyssey is one of Stanley Kubrick's greatest films and is easily one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time. It is my personal favorite because of its imagery. The story is well-thought out and compelling, but having said that, it may not be for everyone. I have showed this film to most of my friends, and of them, only some liked it and none loved it as much as I do. They mostly claimed that the story was too slow for their tastes. This is only magnified by the lack of dialogue during most of the scenes. While I find this fascinating, it may turn some off to this movie. -----------As far as the actual DVD is concerned, the special features are more than adequate. Everything looks pretty good in its remastered form. The audio is up to par and the image quality is good considering when the film was originally shot. For any film geek such as myself, the documentary on the making of the film and the audio commentary for the feature film are very interesting, although it's too bad Kubrick wasn't around to add his own commentary. Lastly, the featurettes were also worth watching. -----------All in all, I recommend this film to anybody who thinks they can keep themselves interested in the absence of dialogue. It is one of my favorite films of all time.
What's great about it: Amazing cinematography, stunning imagery, awesome special features.
What's not so great: Some may find the story uninteresting.
