Jumanji, this isn't

This movie really seems to want to be a combination of Jumanji and small soldiers. Unfortunately, it doesn't really do well at either. Stiller isn't very funny either. It is in my collection only because it was free. Some of the younger crowd may enjoy it, though.

This release contains the entire run of the BBC series Planet Earth, which was shot on revolutionary high-definition cameras over the course of five years, and utilized 40 cameramen in 200 locations. From the highest mountain peaks to the deepest river floors, Planet Earth sets out to capture on camera the most elusive creatures every known to humankind.

Amazing to say the least

This is a ground breaking documentary. The thing that most people don't know is the amount of technology that had to be invented to even make this documentary. Low light high definition cameras that could capture video below the canopy of the rain forest or a high definition camera that could capture at 600 or 900 frames a second for the great white jump sequence. It is simply an amazing documentary and should be in EVERY blu-ray collection.

I was expecting more
on November 3, 2008

I suppose my problem may have been that I went in expecting something similar to Garner's "13 Going on 30." I was looking for something more up lifting where the good guy wins in the end. Unfortunately, what we find is a story that just continues to kick the main character when she is down and then rub salt in her wounds. First her husband to be dies right before the wedding. Then it comes to light that he was cheating on her the entire time with another woman in another state. Then everyone knew about it but her. Then the obviously 'bad choice' in a guy is the one she falls for, breaks up with, and then falls for again. Eh, some will like this film, I was not one of them.
What's great about it: Great video and audio quality

A movie that scared a generation

"Every once in a while, a film comes along that so pushes the envelope of what is permissible to say and show on-screen that it changes the rules for all that follow it. Such cinematic touchstones don't have to be particularly good, but they do have to capture the cultural zeitgeist in such a way that our perception of the film becomes inseparable from its attendant controversy." This is such a film, and the transfer is great. fans of the movie will not be disappointed.
What's great about it: Great looking picture and decent quality audio
What's not so great: Supplements are in standard definition

A rather poor haunting movie
on November 3, 2008

Unfortunately, this movie fails to deliver. This, yet another, Japanese-inspired horror movie fails to impress whilst pulling out every cliche the genre has to offer. Every plot twist and jump scare are obvious from a mile away. The family dynamics are a joke at best and the acting from the parents is just as cliche as the rest of the script.
Say what you will about the movie, but it certainly looks and sounds great. All in all, I would leave this great looking movie sitting on the shelf and buy something else with your hard earned money.
What's great about it: Great quality audio and video
What's not so great: lacking in extras and the movie is dreadful

Based on the Marvel Comics character, stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze gives up his soul to become a hell-blazing vigilante, to fight against power-hungry Blackheart, the son of the devil himself.

A fun popcorn movie

This movie is a pretty good flick if all you are looking to do is sit down and watch a rather exciting movie. If you were a fan of daredevil you will most likely enjoy this one as it is from the same writer/director.
Regardless of how you feel about the movie itself, the transfer of this movie is amazing. With only a few minor exceptions, this movie looks and sounds as good as a blu-ray can. It also has a ton of special features. They managed to fit almost all of the features from the two disc DVD set. The only thing missing is a featurette on the origin of Ghost rider and some animatics. However, what they have included is presented in 1080p, so the loss is no big deal.
What's great about it: Near reference quality picture and reference quality audio and all of the extras are in 1080p
What's not so great: Not all of the special features that can be found on the DVD

A great mystery
on November 3, 2008

This movie is really like no other. It is a murder mystery that has a great plot with a few twists and an all-star cast. Just fair warning, there is a good bit of nudity, both male and female. I would highly recommend this one.
What's great about it: Great audio and video quality
What's not so great: a bare bones release

Avoid this like the plague

This movie is absolutely horrible. It is one of the rare occasions where you have an all-star cast that simply can't improve the horrible material they are presented with. I have heard that there is a book you have to read prior to watching the movie, but I can't see any literature improving this mess. It was simply dull and boring. Neither my brother nor I could make it all the way through this one. Rent it if you don't want to take my word for it.

A really fun movie

This is a great film. I thought it would come off as cheesy and cliche, but I rather enjoyed watching it and found myself rooting for the main character throughout. Most of the supplements are in high definition, which is a plus. Unfortunately, there isn't much. If you are looking for a great popcorn flick than this is it.
What's great about it: Good Picture and Audio Quality (lossless)
What's not so great: Lacking in supplements

Is that an abba poster?

This movie is just plain funny the whole way through. I honestly can't find any faults in it besides that it obviously isn't a movie for the whole family. However, those that can watch it will have a ball.
I highly recommend picking this one up. There are tons of special features and the picture and audio quality are decent for Blu-ray. You will not be disappointed.
What's great about it: Decent piture quality, good audio, and a ton of special features
What's not so great: not all of the features are in high definition

Are PS2 games compatible with PS3 console?

I want to know if PS3 will play my PS2 games before I go ahead and purchase it.
There are no longer any PS3's being produced that will play PS2 games. The 80 gigs used to, and now they don't. I think the last ones that did were the Metal Gear solid limited editions. The 60 gig PS3's also had backward compatibility. However, it was encoded with hardware as opposed to the software that the 80 gig uses and therefore had different problems with different games, as does the 80. The 60 is generally thought of as more compatible with older games than the 80. You can find lists of games that wont work with either system, but they are few and far between. As of right now, you cannot buy a new PS3 of any size that has the ability to play PS2 games unless you buy a used one.
