Great Film
on September 21, 2008
Posted by: irishpink86
This is one of the greatest and most important Science Fiction films of all time. It has a great message and is not completely defined by special effects (which so many films including, based on early appearance, the remake of this one do). This is a must see movie for any fan of science fiction or classic film in general.

It's James Taylor
on September 20, 2008

This CD is James Taylor. From that you should know what you are going to get. Smooth, light, guitar emphasized music with gently sung lyrics. It's good for relaxing, and is enjoyable, but if that doesn't sound good to you than don't buy it.

Great show
on September 18, 2008

This is a great show because it expertly uses the perceptions of celebrity's for humorous effect. Some times the actual plots aren't as great but the celebrity appearances actually make this work. (I'm not someone who has to read all the gossip magazines or watch ET or TMZ either).
What's great about it: Great use of celebrities

The set contains all nine episodes form the second season of the popular British sitcom Coupling. Each episode is presented in the original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. Supplemental materials include a variety of commentary tracks recorded by many people who worked on the show, as well as interviews with the talent involved, and biographies of the cast. This is a solid release that will please any fan of the series.

Great Series
on September 16, 2008

This a great series and one you shouldn't miss. Some of the jokes are a little cliche but those are made up for by a great number of good ones.
What's great about it: Excellent Series
What's not so great: Not quite as good as Season One

Great Musical
on August 9, 2008
Posted by: irishpink86
Despite the fact that I am not usually a fan of movie musicals, I enjoyed this one. It is full of good performances and solid (though far from perfect) covers of Beatles songs. This movie is certainly worth your time, and I find that every month or two it is worth my time again.

Maybe good once

Mission Impossible 2 loses touch with it's predecessor and simply becomes another failed attempt to rip of the James Bond formula. There are a few interesting action scenes so you might want to see it once, but there is no sense in buying this because it is not worth seeing more than that.
What's great about it: Action packed

Grosse Pointe Blank never got the attention it deserved, but it is one of John Cusack's better films. While the DVD, like most early releases, lacks supplemental features, it is nonetheless a great opportunity to see the movie's successful blend of neurotic humor and well-choreographed action with an impressive 1.85:1 non-anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Sound. While it is an early transfer, the print looks good and is clear of dirt or grain. The sound outshines that of the video release and actually makes the disc an impressive sample of the audio and visual potential of DVD, at least for the early years of the format. The audio transfer also upholds the film's quirky comic interplay in its quieter moments while waiting to really deliver the goods during the action scenes. The theatrical trailer is the only special feature on the disc. While it would have been nice to hear a John Cusack and George Armitage commentary track, the disc is still worth hunting down for Cusack fans or lovers of dark comedy and gunplay.

Fun film

This is not the most intelligent film you will ever find the fight sequences do seem a little too coreographed, but these flaws can easily be put aside to just enjoy the comedic situation. John Cusack is enjoyable in the role and Dan Akroyd gives a great performance, which seems rare anymore. The only thing holding me back from fully endorsing this is that Bestbuy.com also has a two pack of Grosse Point Blank and High Fidelity, another great film, listed for the same price. If you don't own High Fidelity pick that one up. Either way you won't lose by owning a copy of Grosse Point Blank.

Writer Alexandre Dumas' exciting novel is completely re-imagined for the screen in director Peter Hyams' The Musketeer. Universal has done a very nice job at making this 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer look fantastically clean and crisp. The colors all display a deep richness and detailed texture while black levels appear sharp and solid. This is a very nice picture with hardly any imperfections. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English and French, as well as DTS in English. Both of these soundtracks are very full and explosive with the use of Surround Sounds being very expansive. With the dialogue, effects, and music all clear of any distortion or hiss, these audio mixes should give any home theater system a beneficial workout. Also included on this disc are subtitles in English. Extra features on The Musketeer are slim to none, including two very short featurettes (around two minutes each) on "the Casting of Justin Chambers" and "the Stunts" featured in the film, as well as a few talent bios on the cast and crew, some weak production notes, and a theatrical trailer for the film. Someday there may be a better edition of this film; until then, these slim supplements are what fans are stuck with.

Buy another version

Though this adaptation of the Three Musketeers does have some neat effects and action sequences, the poor dialogue and dumbed down story ultimately makes it hard to watch. The Three Musketeers has been adapted for film so many times that I would just recommend you try another adaptation. Unfortunately, I'm not sure which one to tell you.

Excellent Satire
on August 5, 2008
Posted by: irishpink86
This is a funny and intelligent satire that is certainly worth buying. One thing that makes this satire so effective is that it is willing to equally attack both the tobacco companies and the governments attempts to strangle them. This makes you feel like your really watching a good a film and not a soap box film so you can just relax and enjoy it. This is quite possibly the best satirical film of the last decade.

Decent but flawed
on August 4, 2008
Posted by: irishpink86
This was an alright movie and one that may be worth watching once. However, there were some key unforgiveable flaws. First of all, while looking back the film breaks from Will's point of view at an important point. That is just a lazy way to write something that you could have found another way around. Secondly, the film seems to teach that people (especially women) should put their romantic relationships ahead of their careers no matter what and that just bothered me. There are a few other major problems that I had with the film, but I don't think that I could go into them without revealing to much of the plot. It's saving grace though is that the scenes that aren't incredibly flawed are pretty good so it might be worth a rent.
