Gibson really makes his mark as a director with this superb film. It looked great in the theater, and at home on your big screen Blu ray, it jumps out at you until you feel that you have gone back in time with the characters. The story is essentially about the end of the Mayan civilization told through the very personal story of a man chosen as a sacrifice. However, no one review can really describe the story as it is felt and seen by each viewer. Watching this film is a visceral experience. It is beautifully shot, well acted by native characters for authenticity, and its action sequences are vivid and tense. From the moment it begins until the end, it holds one's attention and never lets go. The film is violent and graphic, and may be too intense for some, especially small children. However, none of the violence is gratuitous. It is all part of the story and never seems over the top. This film is quite an experience for any true film fan, especially those interested in historical action movies. I highly recommend it!
