Fans of Modern Warfare and Oblivion rejoice!

I have never played any of the previous Fallout games, but in comparison to the third installment, I'm sure there's no point in even going back to them. From the makers of Oblivion (which I personally believe to be one of the best rpgs ever), comes Fallout 3, a game about the devastation of war, love, hope, and most certainly violence. Set in the post apocalyptic wastes of Washington D.C, you will play as a guy or gal who has lived in an underground vault for his or her entire life and one day must leave to find their father who one day goes missing. The events from the birth of your character to the climatic ending are all chronicled in the 20 to maybe even 40 hours you will spend playing the game. On your journey, you will be equipped with a Pip-Boy, which is like a big iPhone that fits on your wrist with flashlight. In the game, you will have a wide selection of weapons from baseball bats to plasma gatling guns, even swords (for the Oblivion fans). With these weapons, you will find yourself mowing down mutants in a very bloody fashion (This game is not for young kids and immature adults). But not even the awesome head explosions can save a game's combat. Most enemies are very very fast and without your V.A.T.S targeting assistance, you will be wasting all your ammo. More negative aspects of the game are the character animations that are exactly like Oblivion (maybe even worse?). Compared to a fantastic game like Mass Effect who's facial animations were the most realistic I had ever seen, Fallout 3 just falls flat. But besides the robotic character animations, there is some true beauty in Fallout 3. If your bored with all the games you already have and are looking for something that will capture your interest for many hours, get Fallout 3. Good graphics or not, it's a great game.
What's great about it: Nice visuals that present the desolate world of Fallout perfectly, interesting plot and characters, cool weapons
What's not so great: Not the longest RPG, clunky combative gameplay, out of place voice-acting, robotic character movements, glitches, etc..

It wasn't my idea to get this "game"

Let me first start out by saying that CoD 5 is less than a new installment in the CoD franchise and more like an expansion pack to CoD 3. The game looks like it was originally developed for the Xbox, its graphics are just that bad. In another review I wrote for Gears of War 2, I also bashed this game, but this review continues the critical roast. There are some new settings in CoD 5 that were not in any of the previous WW2 games, i.e; Hawaii. There is also a flamethrower that makes its first debut in a CoD game. That is about it. So if you want to relieve essential moments in WW2, you might as well just play CoD 2 or 3 because even they are a whole lot much better. CoD 4 is obviously still king.
What's great about it: You can completely blow off enemies' body parts with the more powerful weapons
What's not so great: There are very few things new from CoD 3

It's much better than Call of Duty 5
on January 16, 2009

I finally got the game maybe two weeks after it was officially released after convincing my idiot brother that Call of Duty 5 sucked and he made a mistake on impulsively buying it instead of GoW 2. It had been a long time since I played Gow 1, so my memory was a bit shady on how its graphics were, but I think that the graphics in GoW 2 are maybe slightly better pertaining to shadows and water effects. The same gameplay is still here with debuts of some new weapons in your arsenal. In GoW 2, even reloading a weapon can be somewhat fun. The Locust (the bad guys of the game) are now even smarter than they were in Gow now that they can chop you in half with a chainsaw bayonet. GoW wasn't made for the storyline, so don't expect any drama or moments that might make a more light hearted gamer shed some tears. After reading this, you shouldn't let your metaphorical "dumb older brother" keep you from getting this game because it's just that good. And also, if you are younger than eighteen years old, don't try to get the game at a store unless you can talk your dad into doing it for you.
What's great about it: Graphics, weapons, so much gore, chainsaw bayonet
What's not so great: too much gore, few environments, might be a bit on the short side

A fun game for children and young teens
on August 9, 2008
Posted by: Carrson
Mario Kart Wii is a child's game that people over the age of 14 don't have to be ashamed to play and why shouldn't they be. It's fun to play alone or with friends, and there is a cool feature where you can play with anyone around the world who owns the game. You can play as almost all the classic gaming characters like Mario and Luigi and there are four different classes of transportation to choose from. This is all in your control with a small driver's wheel that is used through the Wiimote. In the game there are many diverse circuits, all based off of classic video games and consisting of these tracks are special items you can pick up along the way that send you speeding past the other cars or just slow the other cars down. So if you're a fan of simple games that are so easy they make you feel like you're good at something, this one is for you.
What's great about it: Amusing gameplay, cool motion sensitive controls, and very easy
What's not so great: Short campaign that seems over quite quickly, not much replay value, and cheap graphics design

Not too pleased

Halo is of my favorite gaming franchises and I have played both Halos 1 and 2 many many times because they are both excellent games. But now is the hour of our discontent for Halo 3 has been released. Almost everything that was good from the other Halos has not been found and of these attributes is the story and the state of the art graphics. Most people who buy the game will find that the ending is not quite what you would want to happen (maybe you should play the whole game on legendary difficulty) and that the graphics are very much over rated. But still the game is very fun, especially on co-op mode and shooting down crazy aliens is just part of it if not most of it. Overall, this is a pretty good game even for fans or beginners to the franchise, it's just not perfect.
What's great about it: The physics engine, explosions, and vehicles
What's not so great: The cool yet unsatisfying ending, nothing like its predecessors, and it's the final Halo game

Time has not decayed this beautiful game
on August 9, 2008

Gears of War is the game that revolutionized the way all games are made today. With its state of the art graphics engine, it was able to push outstanding, realistic visuals and astound everyone who played it. But if you have not yet purchased this game, (I mean, it's been a really long time) you would do it now just to witness how the next gen revolution began.
In Gears of War, you will instantly find that it is very gruesome, (make sure your parents aren't around) body parts and blood flying in an unrealistic fashion. With you in combat you will have a wide variety of powerful weapons in your arsenal, my favorite being the Assault Rifle with the chainsaw attached to it. You will also have three or one squad mate with you at all times but this doesn't mean that combat will be any easier.
But now forget the combat, it's time to talk about the amazing visuals in this game. The lighting in dark areas give the game a frightening look and when you reach the majestic gold mine level later in the game, you will be awed by the flowing yellow liquid that seeps and flows everywhere around you. The water effects are the small details that make the game seem like the real world compared to most of the other games out at the time, especially the rain as it flows down trees and buildings and glistening in the light of your flashlight.
So after writing through this long and horrible review, I can't really remember ever righting anything negative about this game, but if there were one thing I would personally mention, it's just a bit short, that's just my opinion you might think otherwise. Heed this review, go out and finish this game 4, 5, or 6 times because it's just that good.
What's great about it: Visuals, fun and immersive gameplay, cooperative ersive play, and storyline
What's not so great: A bit short

A thriller from start to finish
on August 8, 2008
Posted by: Carrson
If there's one thing about Bioshock that I would say was the best thing about it, I couldn't say that one aspect was better, because the composure of this game was classical! From your terrifying crash into the ocean at the beginning, to the shocking conclusion, I was not able to stop playing this game. It is unique, I daresay no other game is quite like it because of the "deserted" setting, an underwater metropolis called Rapture that is gorgeuosly presented yet dirty and dilapidated. As I made my way through the beautiful environments I could find very few things wrong with Bioshock except for its level of difficulty. So if you heed what this review says, you will go out and play the game 2 or 3 times, because it's just that good.
What's great about it: Dark and frightening graphics, interesting story, wonderful musical score, and filled with nightmarish scenes
What's not so great: Simple, not many weapons, and both the endings weren't that great. (Although they led thought of a sequel)

What else can I say but, "This is one of the best games I have ever played in my life." These words are the utter truth and the evidence is in the 250 hours I've spent enjoying it. This is a certain "must buy."
What's great about it: Beautiful graphics, massive world to explore, many fun and interesting quests, and a good storyline.
What's not so great: Character movement is unrealistic and can get boring at times

A good game with a creative storyline
on August 8, 2008
Posted by: Carrson
I was a Mass Effect fan ever since I read about it in a gaming magazine which had nothing to say but good things about it. I would occasionally go on the website and see if there was any recent news posted and there was always something good. I bought the game and played it the second I got home and much to my disappointment, there was a somewhat boring and unextraordinary feeling to the game, this being promised. Yes, the facial animations were very realistic but there were limited weapon categories, limited customization options, and terrible A.I for a next gen game. In combat, enemies' voice work is repetitive and the architectural variety is limited to about six different designs. Exploratory planets are lifeless and desolate and they too are much similar to one another, causing me to believe that production of the game was rushed. But beneath these negative areas, there lies a storytelling gem that includes exceptional voice work and at most times, beautiful landscapes and graphics. I'm sure Bioware did put most of the time into voice work and the facial movements of the characters. But Bioware, I have come to believe, is of my top four favorite gaming developers, this because they produced such classics as KOTOR 1 and 2 and Jade Empire and for this I should be grateful that exceptional quality is still in the name of Bioware.
What's great about it: Good story, amazing graphics, and impressive voice acting
What's not so great: Unsatisfying gameplay, terrible A.I, not many customazation options, and not much variety

A flawed yet outstanding title
on August 8, 2008
Posted by: Carrson
From the raunchy beginning scene to the satisfying ending, Grand Theft Auto 4 was quite the epic game. This new installment including many new things from its predecessors and took a substantial turn into a more realistic world. And with more realism came the somewhat gory violence and the very annoying prospect that for some reason, Niko, (the main character) can not buckle his seat belt. Hurtling down the highway with a five star wanted level and helicopters and tons of police on your tail, and this fun speed rush is ended once you swerve to miss a car on the other lane and send yourself into a wall. For not wearing a seat belt, Niko flies through the windshield and head first into the hard cement wall. And by this time, the cops have surrounded you and the chase is done. But aside from the fact that this annoying loccurence happens, Grand Theft Auto 4 was a very enjoyable game and is one of the best of the year so far.
What's great about it: Amazing graphices, good control scheme, and a memorable storyline with many interesting characters.
What's not so great: A few glitches, some including the A.I of your companions.
