The Marshall Uxbridge Speaker is the kind of quality you expect from Marshall. It is well made, compact, and has a nostalgic design. The unit is heavier than I thought it would be, but that just emphasizes its quality.
To use the unit, you will need to download the Marshall Voice app. It was easy to download and set up. The pamphlets that come with the unit are not very informative. They direct you to the Marshall web site to download the user manual. However, I was unable to find a manual there, only the product page.
The app has an equalizer that allows you to use pre-programmed settings (pop, rock, spoken, etc.) for sound. You can also customize your settings. If you don’t want to use the app, though, you can use buttons located on the top of the unit (though you won’t find the presets there).
I had an issue with syncing it with the Bluetooth on my phone. It took me a few tries before it connected. The app also wanted to be updated right away, so I had to wait for that.
Once the tech issues were out of the way, it performed as a nice little speaker on my desk. It didn’t take up too much room and didn’t blast me out of my chair. I wish it was a rechargeable speaker so I could have used it without a cord, but that’s a minor complaint.
The one thing I had issue though is that the Alexa microphone seems quite sensitive. I wasn’t saying words that even sounded like “Alexa” and it still was being activated when I didn’t want it to be.
In all, I do like the Uxbridge, even with the minor tech issues. There seems to be a few more bugs to work out.

For years I’ve used TurboTax to do my taxes. Once you start with one service, you keep buying that same service year because (a) it’s familiar, and (b) you don’t want to start over with something new. Your files are in the other format and you don’t want to have to re-enter all your information.
Enter H&R Block. They’ve been the most known brand of tax preparation services for many years. I’ve resisted trying new software because I didn’t want to have to start over.
This wasn’t a problem. The H&R Block software was able to import my last year’s taxes with ease.
The step-by-step process was similar to TurboTax in that it asked simple, easy to understand questions. I was also able to import my company’s W2 information.
To electronically file your Federal Taxes is included; there is a fee to electronically file your state taxes. This was the same fee as what TurboTax charged.
The only real difference I had, and I’m not sure if this the software or something else, was that my refunds took twice as long to receive as I was used to it being. I included this information just in case you run into the same thing.

The first thing I noticed about the LG CordZero Bagless Cordless Handheld/Stick Vacuum is how beautifully it is packaged. A little TOO beautifully. It’s like taking apart a kit. You have to take out cardboard frames and peel off little stickers protecting the finish off of everything. Then the attachments are in like a fast food drink carton, which I thought was cool at first. I quickly realized that it wasn’t a permanent carrying case of any kind. To me, that would have been nice to carry attachments from room to room.
After I spent 10 minutes unpacking everything, I started putting together the unit. You have a stand for both batteries (two batteries! Yay!) and the vacuum to be stored on, along with the attachments. The instructions say you can do a “freestanding” application, or you can screw it to the wall like a permanent charging station. However, it’s not really “freestanding”, as they recommend anchoring the stand to a wall even if you have it sitting on the floor. Um, no. I just have mine standing in the hallway.
Next, I tried out the actual vacuum. I have back issues, so my larger floor vacuums are very hard to handle and cause a lot of pain. This unit is much lighter to use and glides well across my carpet. It picked up a LOT of dirt.
What really disappointed me was the emptying feature. I expected to release the chamber, have the dirt/hair fall into the trash, and that’s that. I had to put my hand in the chamber and release all of the debris. NOT what I am looking for in a vacuum. It felt so gross. Everything just sort of wrapped around itself and got lodged. That is why I took away the star. I want something no fuss, no muss.
In all, the unit is beautiful and stylish. The red is quite attractive. It doesn’t take up a lot of room and comes with two batteries which is always helpful. However, be prepared to have to help it empty the chamber of the crud.

I frequently work from home with some time spent in the office. Both my workspaces have docks for my laptop to plug into so that I can use a regular keyboard and multiple monitors. I decided that, since I spend most of my typing time doing my work, I would try the Logitech ERGO K860 Ergonomic Split Keyboard at home with my work laptop.
The keyboard is quick and simple to use. You can connect the unit via USB or Bluetooth. I chose to use the BT connection because (a) my computer didn’t have a lot of USB ports, and (b) then I am not dependent on a USB dongle if/when I switch computers. I had no issues with setup. You can download the recommended software, but you won’t need it just to operate the product.
The keyboard, however, is rather large and for this reason, is not portable from location to location. You could use it from room to room if you so choose.
Because of its size, I found it difficult to use. The wrist rest is not adjustable or removeable. I felt like it was up too high for me. It could have been my set up; my keyboard tray to too low for my comfort, so I use the keyboard on the desk and use the tray to hold the laptop. I wish it had been somewhat adjustable so that I could have lowered the curve.
It is not hard to get used to, but I did have more spelling errors at first. My left hand acclimated quickly to the new setup, but my right hand didn’t settle on the keyboard as easily. My wrists elevated at an odd angle didn’t help. I didn’t experience any pain, just awkwardness. I would have liked to try it with the wrist rest removed entirely.
The keyboard also took a considerable amount of space up on my desk; more than the standard keyboard did. My desk is rather small and real estate is limited. For something to require so much extra space, I had to do a bit of rearranging. If you have a larger desk, or a very tidy desk (which mine is neither of those things) then you may not have that issue. Just be aware that it’s larger than the average keyboard.
Logitech makes good products, so I have no qualms about recommending the product. I’m just not sure it is the right product for me. Your mileage may vary.

The BISSELL air220 is about the size of a carry-on rolling suitcase. The unit is suitable for an area of 800 sq. ft. I decided to put the unit in the master bedroom.
The unit is simple to set up. You unwrap and install the filters, plug it in, and turn it on. It has an Automatic feature where it senses the need for filtering in the room. It runs quietly; it makes no more noise than your average fan. It provides a nice white noise to sleep by. The instructions say that it also has a dimming feature to lessen disruption from the display, but the display has not bothered me so far.
The challenge I find is that the instructions and operations are perhaps TOO simple. The instructions don’t really tell you much outside of setup. I tried to find a video on Bissell’s YouTube channel to maybe explain the benefits of this unit, but I didn’t find anything. I’m not sure when I should use the manual settings or not. I wish I had a LED display that gave a reading of air quality as part of the unit so that I can see how it is doing.
As for effects, it does seem like I’m breathing a bit better during the night, but I can’t say it was a large discernible difference.

I found this phone to be an interesting product. First, it’s lightweight in comparison to my older cordless phone. It comes with a charging station and a large puck that is its base, though you cannot put the phone on it. So, you need power for the charger and power for the puck. I’m not sure why you couldn’t have the puck also hold the phone so that the charger could be a secondary charger. As it is, the puck just takes up space.
This brings me to a minor annoyance. Manufacturers seem to be going backwards in thinking. First, we had corded phones, then cordless, then wireless (cellular) for ultimate freedom. This unit requires you to use the enclosed Ethernet cable to your router. I have a limited number of Ethernet ports on my mesh wireless system. Our ISP provides a modem, but it only has one Ethernet port, which hooks up to one node, with the other port used by my work computer. My security camera system requires Ethernet. One of my game systems requires Ethernet. This phone requires Ethernet. I’m running out of ports. I don’t understand why, in this case, the phone isn’t truly wireless. It limits the places where I can install the phone.
That all said, the phone is easy to set up. You will need to have both the Alexa app as well as the Motorola HelloVoice app on your phone for this system to work. I know that the Alexa app is also available on tablets, but I did not check to see if HelloVoice could be used on tablets or just the phone.
There is a small instruction card that comes with the unit to walk you through set up. The Motorola phone synced with my cell phone’s contact list.
One nice thing about this unit’s Alexa is that you do have to activate it; it doesn’t “listen” like items like the Echo Dot. If you are concerned about the “listening” capability, but want to try Alexa, this may be a good choice for you. It’s a fully functional Alexa unit on its own.
If you already have Alexa, it would allow you to make calls with your Alexa units.
The standby battery lasts for days. The sound is clear. The phone has a speakerphone option, but it’s not intuitive – I had to press the green phone button twice to activate it.
The MOTO-AXH01 Alexa Built-In Wireless Home Telephone System is a great introduction to Alexa if you are new to the system, or already have the AI in your home and want to add a phone to the mix. I took away one star because of the need to be hooked up to the Ethernet rather than be truly wireless.

I’ve been working in offices for many years now and have used many types of digital printers. I have always wanted one of my own, but up until recently, the price was prohibitive for even just a black & white printer, never mind color.
Now, Brother has an affordable color digital printer for the masses. I am overjoyed.
The first thing I noticed about the Brother HL-L3290CDW Wireless Color All-In-One Printer is that it is a behemoth. You will need a helper getting the printer into place, unless you are super strong yourself.
I could not install it where my inkjet printer now resides. The glass shelf did not have support on the main part of the shelf (just the sides) so I thought the Brother might be too much for it. I was able to get the printer on a metal pedestal file. It just fits.
The design is utilitarian. It looks like it could have come from a 90s era office as much as an office in 2019. The large size is needed to accommodate the ink cartridges. This shouldn’t be surprising to me, but it was, as I thought that technology would have improved to the point of having smaller printers/cartridges.
I had to read the instructions on how to set it up on my Wi-fi. I had tried just pressing the “Wi-fi” button on the file, figuring that would start the set-up process, but not so much. You must navigate through the menu. Then, to type in your passcode for the router, you need to use the arrow keys. There wasn’t a way to simply type the passcode in. I was disappointed in that.
It also comes with a CD – A CD! – for the drivers. How archaic is that? My laptops (home and work) don’t have CD-ROMs or DVD drives. I didn’t end up downloading the drivers. My computers automatically worked with the printer, so I didn’t feel any more was needed.
I think this is a good choice if you are in the market for your first digital printer. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table, as far as I can see, but it seems like it will be a good workhorse.

ION has created a boombox quite reminiscent of the radios of my youth.
This is both good AND bad.
The first thing I noticed about this unit is that it’s HEAVY. Oh, my goodness. Boomboxes in the 80s were super heavy and while portable, it wasn’t the easiest to take with you. I would have thought that the technology would have improved as such as to make the unit lighter.
The boombox design makes it look like it came from the 20th Century vs. the 21st. An analog AM/FM radio with antenna (why could it not have been made digital?). A flipper that changes mode from tape to aux to radio to Bluetooth. Choices of mono, stereo, and bass boost. Basic base and treble dials.
Some features have been added as welcome updates. You have an Aux jack, as well as a USB port and microSD card slot. You can also use the tape deck to convert old tapes to digital. So, that mixtape you made your crush in high school? You can save it here.
It does charge up so you can use it cordless, but if you REALLY want to go retro, you can use six D batteries (so it can be even HEAVIER).
The Bluetooth was super easy to pair with my phone. The sound is…meh. It’s good enough for picnics or beach days, but maybe not for your rave. The level meters hardly moved while using the radio.
Speaking of radio, the reception was good. I didn’t need to raise the antenna to receive most of the stations in my area.
The only real frustration I had was that I was getting interference through the speakers. The room was full of other electronics, but then again, so is the rest of my house. The instructions say to use it in open areas to reduce the interference, but that’s NOT where I’d use it the most. Who wants to buy a radio JUST to use outside?
I love the ION retro products, and this is no exception. It’s mainly for nostalgia, though. This is not a high-end unit; if you are an audiophile, you probably won’t be happy. For me, it’s fun.

When I was a child, having a Mr. Coffee coffeemaker was a status symbol. You didn’t even have to read the name on the maker to know it was a Mr. Coffee. It had a distinctive style, from the carafe with its plastic white lid, to the maker itself.
Now, Mr. Coffee looks like any other generic coffee make. At a distance, I couldn’t tell the difference between one or another.
However…
This unit has an unusual (and, in my opinion, a long overdue) ability to be taken apart and washed! In the dishwasher!
I don’t know about you, but I’m not great at cleaning out the makers. I hate the smell of descaling using vinegar (warm vinegar – ew!). I forget to buy the special solution. I don’t keep track of brew cycles, and if the maker alerts me to the fact it needs descaling, it’s usually in the morning when I don’t have time to deal with it.
So, with that in mind, I was excited to review this unit.
It’s not quite as I had hoped, though. Yes, the water reservoir comes off, but the lid to it does not (at least, I couldn’t get it off). This means you would have to wash the reservoir in the bottom rack. This took up a good quarter of my dishwasher rack. At the end of the day, our family fills the dishwasher up to the brim, so unless I do an extra load that day, I don’t see me washing this often. (BTW, the instructions still advise to descale the unit.)
The other parts are top rack washable. It comes with a water filtration insert, which appears to use the same inserts as the Keurigs, so if you are like me and have both, you’re good to go with buying one refill box for both.
It also comes with a reusable permanent filter and a removable filter basket. You could use a paper filter as well, but no filters were included.
I washed all the parts before the first use. I still had to run a cleansing cycle through the unit, though, because the bottom portion of the maker was NOT washable.
The first brew seemed to take a long time to complete. I had meant to set a timer to see how long the brew was. I would highly recommend using the “Brew Later” for your morning coffee, otherwise you might not have time to drink it.
The unit beeped halfway through the process (it’s not supposed to beep until it is done). The water stopped at 8 when I had put a full 12 cups of water in the reservoir.
The flavor was unremarkable and a bit on the weak side. I used the same amount as I would have used in my Breville maker, so I may need to adjust the amounts for the Mr. Coffee.
I tried two more brews, both with a paper filter vs. the permanent one. The last brew was more representative of function. It took 10 minutes to brew and had no issues. I’m not sure what happened with tests 1 and 2. The flavor was still on the weak side, so if you like stronger coffee, you’ll need to adjust your amounts.
I’m going to rate the Mr. Coffee just average. It is a good maker for the price, but I was unimpressed.

The Cobra Drive HD is simple, easy-to-use dash camera. It doesn’t require a lot of setup. It comes with a power cable to plug into your car’s accessory port, as well as a syncing cable (that can also power the camera). The best part for me was that it comes with a mini-SD card IN THE BOX! I cannot express how awesome I think that is. It truly is workable straight out of the box.
The camera, once installed, will turn on when you start the car and begin recording automatically. You can also activate an Emergency Record feature if needed, otherwise it will continue to record until you stop the vehicle. It will take a few minutes to register that you have stopped moving and will shut down on its own.
Cobra suggests that you download their iRadar app. I downloaded it and easily linked it up with my phone. However, I did not see any advantages to have the app running while I’m using my camera. It may work better with a radar detector, but with the camera alone, I don’t see the benefit. It would have been nice to have a way to transfer a video to my phone in case I needed to, but I didn’t see a way to do that.
There is also software that you can use to view your videos on the computer. It acts as a basic editing suite. I wanted to use it just for playback, but I was not able to do so.
The video records in three-minute long files. I was able to transfer the files to my computer just by using Windows Explorer. The video quality is very good.
I think for a first-time user this is a great choice. It’s simple to set up, usable right out of the box, a trusted name in car electronics, and works as expected.
