One of the first blu rays I picked up. I have always loved this movie but the transfers have always been so dull. But this left me speechless. I can't even begin to tell you how exciting the new world of blu ray is.
What's great about it: For what used to be a farming field of GRAIN, this has had some tedious work done to it. AMAZING.

I have to admit, I am not a huge fan of this film. I think Mel Gibson has a good eye as far as directing in the sense of visuals and on Braveheart he proved to be a superb director all around. This didn't do much for me. I was honestly bored. But if you do appreciate this movie and want a good Blu ray, this is a must have for your collection.
What's great about it: Great cinematography, good sound and image on blu ray

I don't know how they made this look so good, it's too bad they can't make other films look this good. This is a masterpiece outside of some of the acting. I've never been a huge Harrison Ford fan, but I've had time to overcome that. A must own blu ray for any collector.
What's great about it: Flawless transfer, it looks brand new. The sound is very impressive, most of the pre 90's blu rays have terrible sound.
What's not so great: Too many people find flaws in this film, just look at this as Future Noir.
Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Katharine Ross. The legendary adventures of the two infamous outlaws as they rob banks along the Mexican border and flee to South America while being pursued by a U.S. Marshal and his posse. 1969/color/110 min/PG.

Great film. Sad Blu Ray. The sepia is a bit off, the colors are no different than the DVD. Very washed, bright and often blurry. The menu makes it look as though the film is going to be colorful and brand new, but it seems the only restoring of image was done on the menu. GREAT FILM THOUGH.
What's great about it: If you don't own the DVD and you want a copy of this... the menu looks nice.
What's not so great: it looks the same as the DVD, but the sepia is not as pure, it's more grainy.
12 Monkeys finally gets stellar treatment on DVD from Universal Home Entertainment with this special edition of the 1995 hit. Two previous movie-only DVD versions have been released through the years, but neither was able to touch the laserdisc release, which included the incredible Hamster Factor documentary and the commentary from Terry Gilliam and producer Charles Roven. For those that have been waiting to throw those valuable discs in storage, this is your chance. Both features have been added to this DVD, and rightly so! For those who don't know, The Hamster Factor and Other Tales of 12 Monkeys is a 90-minute making-of from the same people that brought you the fabulous Lost in La Mancha documentary, which Gilliam granted permission to film because of Hamster's success. The commentary is just as entertaining and informative, with both bonus features acting as a complimentary story of the long and arduous shoot, which in itself provides just as much drama and comedy as the actual film. Other extras include the original theatrical trailer, along with the 12 Monkey Archives, which is packed with plenty of production sketches and storyboards. Production notes have been included if anyone is interested, though the real good stuff lies in the rest of the extras and the all-new digitally remastered picture, which showcases the truly incredible anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen image that paired with the Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks make for a well done and highly in-demand disc that should do quite well on the rental and retail shelves.

A great filmed that, if followed, is breathtaking. If you are as big a fan of Gilliam as I am, you might want to check out BRAZIL, it is his masterpiece. This is probably my second favorite.
What's great about it: Terry Gilliam is a genius, Brad Pitt pulls off one of his greatest performances
What's not so great: (Inspired by complaints made by others) It can be confusing if you don't pay attention (as with most films)

The most original film I have seen in many years, possibly the decade. There is nothing so poetic, gorgeous, and moving. The image is flawless, the sound is flawless. If you want a Blu Ray that will shake your house and lift your 1080p TV to the heavens, this is it.
What's great about it: Everything: The cinematography, the creativity, the depth of drama, the sound

Very interesting, similar style to Waking Life, same director (Richard Linklater- Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Dazed and Confused, Slacker). I loved the book, so seeing Keanu Reeves play the main part was a let down. I'm not a fan of his acting, it takes too much energy for him to act.
A mechanic in the British drug trade finds himself caught in the middle of some dangerous circumstances in this crime thriller. XXXX (Daniel Craig) is a nameless go-between in the British mob who buys drugs from underground wholesalers and them sells them to street dealers, keeping the system flowing and making a tidy profit in the process. XXXX is looking forward to getting out of the game, and has displayed both smarts and caution in how he's handled his business, but before his overseer Jimmy Price (Kenneth Cranham) will let him go, he has a couple of favors that need to be done. First, Eddie Temple (Michael Gambon) is a mob boss whose daughter has gotten hooked on hard drugs and run away from home; Jimmy needs XXXX to find them girl and bring her to him before Eddie's men can get hold of her. Second, Dragan (Dragan Micanovic) is a Ecstasy wholesaler who has had a large shipment stolen by Duke (Jamie Foreman); Jimmy wants XXXX to get the Ecstasy back to Dragan, but Duke isn't eager to sell and Dragan is becoming impatient. Between these two matters, XXXX isn't so sure he'll get out of the business alive, especially after he finds himself falling for Duke's nephew's girlfriend, Tammy (Sienna Miller). Layer Cake marked the directorial debut for Matthew Vaughn, best known as a producer for Guy Ritchie's lad-centric crime movies. The Blu-Ray DVD release includes a bucket of extras, including deleted scenes, multiple alternate endings, a behind-the-scenes featurette, plus a Q&A with the director and actor Daniel Craig, along with a director and writer's commentary.

I had no idea this film could look so good. This blu ray is one of the most impressive transfers, mainly due to the look of all previous DVD transfers. It was always so grainy and dull. Now for the first time the colors of the hotel and the blood are vibrant. I am so impressed by this transfer of Stanley Kubrick's shocking masterpiece of Stephen King's The Shining.
What's great about it: What a beautiful transfer, the colors are flawless

Stanley Kubrick is often regarded as the greatest of all filmmakers for his consistent twist of genre. This film is breathtaking in more ways than one. It can be very offensive at times, but in those times it is also very theatrical. I would recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen it and to all who have and want a better transfer of it.
What's great about it: Great film, extra features, better than standard DVD
