I purchased the Toshiba DVD Recorder after my Sony recorder quit working and couldn't be repaired. It was fairly easy to use, though the picture was not quite as sharp over the HDMI interface as the Sony. I rented the movie "Leatherheads" from BlockBuster when it was released last week and was unable to play it. The message was "Disk Error -- Playback feature may not be available on this disc." BlockBuster was very nice about it and replaced it twice, but all 3 discs had the same problem. Finally I tried the disc on my 6 year old Panasonic and it played without any problem. I talked to Toshiba Customer Service about the problem and they told me that their units are not guaranteed to play all DVD formats -- apparently this includes pre-recorded videos. Since the problem was not occuring on every disc, it was not their problem and there was nothing they would do. I originally purchased the unit after reading reviews that said Toshiba Customer Service was above average, but that's not been my experience. I can't recommend this unit. But if you do buy one, keep your old DVD player so you can play the movies that the Toshiba won't!!!
What's great about it: Fairly ease to use
What's not so great: Won't play all pre-recorded videos!
