Blurring the borders of good and evil, this cinematic and stylized adventure stars Bayonetta, a heroine bent on sending supernatural forces to the depths of hell. Armed with her four enchanted guns known as Scarborough Fair, she battles both monstrous behemoths and angelic enemies. By combining special magic attacks, summoning primal forces and unleashing devastating weaponry, she impressively punishes anyone who gets in her way. From its fluid and intuitive combat system to its gripping story line, Bayonetta is one action thriller that won't disappoint. In addition to the weaponry on her hands and feet, Bayonetta also has gruesome devices in her arsenal, such as the Iron Maiden and Guillotine. Charge her Magic gauge to send enemies packing. Even her hair is designed for devastation, serving as a magical conduit to summon demonic beasts for aid in battle. And, with the ability to transform into panthers, bats and other forms, she's prepared to handle any situation. When it comes to banishing sinister supernatural forces, Bayonetta's the best man for the job.

I'm a casual gamer whose exposure to Japanese-created gaming has pretty much been limited to the Mario Bros. franchise. So getting used to the complete FOREIGN-ness of Bayonetta was a little hard at first. But this game is AWESOME! The visuals are among the best I've ever seen in a video game and the game play, while strange, is very addictive. I haven't gotten very far in the game, but so far, I've basically watched a lot of cinimatic sequences between kicking a** a la Tekken or Mortal Combat. It may sound not very cool or engaging, but somehow IT IS. Also, I've purchased several games through Best Buy's PRE-OWNED portal and never been disappointed with the quality of what they've sent me. This was one of the few they sent without a gaming guide, but you can always look up and print down anything you need for free online from a dozen different sites, so don't let that stop you from saving quite a bit of money off new.
What's great about it: Visuals, WIDE variety of fighting moves
What's not so great: Some of the peripheral characters are a little annoying. Or a LOT.

Funniest movie I've seen in a long time. The casting is superb from top to bottom and Seth Rogen and Bill Hader as two cops are laugh out loud 'til you vomit funny. The writing is a great mix of very clever and just dumb enough. I realize that comedy evolves and what's really funny now just isn't as funny later (see old episodes of South Park to figure out what I mean), but I've got a feeling that this movie might stand up as well as Animal House or Stripes some day. Remember, "People don't forget."
What's great about it: Fantasic Writing and Acting
What's not so great: Creepy Scene Near The Very End

If you're a die-hard Heinlein fan, this movie doesn't have much to do with the book (which was a scathing social commentary on, among other things, democratic societies and the demonizing of enemies in war). A few of the basic plot elements are there, but the social commentary in the movie is ham-fisted and often (unintentionally) comical. But the movie is very entertaining if you can get past Denise Richards horrible acting and Casper Van Dien's fairly wooden performance. On the other hand, Jake Busey, Michael Ironside and Dina Meyer (Jason Priestly's older teacher girlfriend on 90210) do a pretty good job. The special effects are actually very good for 1997 and the actors are all nice to look at. Like any Paul Verhoeven movie, there's some gratuitous nudity, so it's not really a kid movie, although the fast-paced action, simple plot and slick special effects are extremely reminiscent of Transformers or one of the later Star Wars movies, so kids would certainly enjoy it. All-in-all, I've always had fun turning off my brain and watching this movie for what it is: entertaining trash.

First, I really like Gary Oldman and Isabella Rossellini. So I'm biased. But I've enjoyed this movie since I first saw it when it came out in '94. It reminds me a lot of The Red Violin, one of my very favorite movies. It has elements of a timeless love story, an epic period piece, a compelling mystery and a decent (if speculative) biopic. The score is fantastic (if you like classical music) and the cinematography is first-rate throughout. I'm not big on DVD Extras, so I haven't checked them out as yet to see if it really rates a "Special Edition" tagline. All-in-all a great film that holds up very well even 16 years later.

Mostly I'm commenting on the used game service as a whole. I had this game recommended to me at a local used game store because I had enjoyed Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion so much. This game has the same basic engine and interface, although it's set in an apocolyptic future. I haven't had a chance to play the game much yet, but it seems fairly cool: Lots to do and interact with, good RPG characters, stats and so forth... I bought this through Best Buy's used games for two reasons. First, I love Best Buy and would rather they have my money than WalMart or some other retail store. Second, the used game store was out of stock. The price at Best Buy was a little high and the box it came in was cracked and missing some of the plastic. On the other hand, the disc was in perfect condition, as was the included user guide. Overall, I'd recommend this service, but they need to work on keeping their pricing comparable to other outlets.
