"It's been 14 years of silence,
it's been 14 years of pain,
it's been 14 years that are lost forever,
and we'll never have again."
After 14 years, thel ong awaited Chinese Democracy finally hits Best Buy. You will not be disappointed. Axl Rose has managed to get some of the best people in music to help him create one of the best all around rock albums to come out in years. With everything from the industrial rock sounds of "Shackler's Revenge" to the piano ballad of "This I Love", which is sure to hit home with the female population, this album hits a homerun in the rock industry.
Don't let the absence of Slash be a turn off. If you are going to replace one of the most popular guitarists in the world, you better replace him with one of the most technically precise guitarist in the world in "BucketHead". The guitar work in this album is better than any album in years and it's fair to say that the technically superior, if not odd, Buckethead puts down tracks that Slash would not even attempt to cover on his strongest day. He may lack the "soul" of Slash, but he also lacks the sloppiness that sometimes goes along with it, and more than makes up for it with his percision. Buckethead almost never misses a note, even live, and is known as one of the best guitar players in the world as he joins one of rocks all time great voices to make an album that will find itself stuck in your CD player.
Axl's voice is as strong as ever, after years of rest, and it becomes evident immediately. The combination of great guitars and Axl's all to familar voice takes over every song which leads to a great, diverse album that features at least six or seven potential singles. This album will have the staying power that can be hard to find in the rock industry today.
Potential singles:
"There Was a Time"- Best song on the album. Will be a huge radio hit.
"Better"- just released, and a very catchy song that has been bought for a Harley-Davidson Commercial already.
"Street of Dreams"- The 2008 answer to November Rain. Another potentially huge single of the ballad variety featuring AXl's strong voice and piano work with Buckethead's perfect guitar work.
"Madagascar"- Epic offering features excerps from three or four classic movies during middle of song including Braveheart, Seven, and Martin Luther King speeches. Will be on the radio soon.
"Rhiad and the Bedouns"- A Led Zeppelin style song that starts off with Axl's version of the Immigrant Song and leads to one of the albums most "heavy meta"l like offerings.
"Sorry"- Has a Pink Floyd type feel with a little heavier edge. Features Sebastian Bach on backup vocals. Again, Buckethead really cuts loose on this tune with a variety of different levels of guitar solos.
Overall, can't miss album no matter who you are. Don't pay attention to the Axl Rose haters. This is a Guns N Roses album for evey taste and if you are a fan of the guitar, this album features some of the best guitar work that I have heard in many, many years.
What's great about it: Great variety of music, well written, great vocals and guitar work.
What's not so great: Cover art is weak. No marketing, anyone seen or heard from Axl?.
I would recommend this to a friend!
