This Garmin 255WT is the nicest GPS I have owned. I started off with a Garmin C320 years ago and that was a good unit. Have also used handheld Garmin's like the eTrex Legend and eTrex Vista Cx.
Since then I have had a Mio and a Sanyo branded automotive GPS units. These lesser known brands were decent but lacked the refinements that Garmin unit's have.
The voice is clear and easy to understand. The spoken street names were very good though in my area there aren't any too difficult to pronounce street names.
Not had a chance to see the how the Traffic works, though the green icon was there when I was driving so the FM data channel must have been present.
There is a map update available. You'll need your own USB cable to update it as one is not included in the box. After playing with it as it was right out of the box I took it inside, registered it with Garmin and found that "City Navigator North America NT 2010 Map Update" is available for download. Can't beat a free update to the maps! There are also some other updates the webupdater software found.
Overall I think this is a solid device. I've never had any issues with Garmin devices.
What's great about it: Ease of use, free map updates
What's not so great: Maybe that no USB cable is included.
