This game picks up where its predecessors left off but you do not ened to be familiar with Hill 30 or Earned in Blood to follow the story or enjoy the game. It has an intro cinematic that, for the most part, sums up earlier stories and introduces the predominant themes of the game. It is a squad-based shooter set during Operation market Garden and follows the story of Sgt Matt Baker and his squad. The player will play through the eyes of Matt Baker and witness as he struggles with the burdens of leadership and the price of war. You will command 3 different fire teams as you progress through the levels and will use a variety of objects to take cover on as you try to outflank and eliminate German resistance. At points, you will be able to drive a tank but the majority, and best parts of, the combat are solo or with your squad. Online, the player can either be a squad leader, a rifleman, a tank driver, or a special weapons soldier (MG, bazooka, or sniper). The MP is solid but lacks variety. You win by either destroying the other team, or raising your flag (if the attacking team) or defending the flagpoles (if you're the defending team). The game does have some minor detail issues and streaming problems, and AI (on both sides) can behave strangely. Units will sometimes remain in the open rather than take cover and will take dangerous routes to get to cover, but the AI is generaly very intelligent and dangerous. Overall, the game was very enjoyable and took me about 8 hrs the first time to fnish it, which is good economy for the purchase. The game is fairly authentic and sensitive in its presentation of war and its horrors. It does suffer from some flaws but this did not prevent me from playing it through more than once. The MP is very enjoyable, especially if you can get a group that works well together.
What's great about it: Story-driven, intelligent combat, good length
What's not so great: Minor graphical glitches, Minor AI glitches, Average MP

Bioshock follows in the tradition of great games like Silent Hill and Condemned (where there is a combination of problem solving, suspense, violence and fantastic storylines), but Bioshock raised the ante quite a bit. Bioshock has a broad range of upgradeable weapons that, while being essential to any traditional shooter, are unique in ways that make them enhance the feel of Bioshock rather than making it feel just like any other shooter. You also have a strong variety of upgradeable powers (called 'plasmids'), as well as interchangeable upgrades to your stats (called 'tonics') that add a RPG feel to the game. With a sophisticated but easy-to-learn control scheme, as well as a virtual inability to die (by means a 'vita chambers'), the game is accessible (and able to finish) to beginners and strangers to shooters, while three levels of difficulty provide challenges for the veteran gamer. An engrossing and original story will keep gamers intrigued, and alternate endings guarantee replays. As with most shooters, there is violence, gore, and strong language, but I never felt it was excessive or irrelevant, but it does have a mature rating. Bioshock is an amazing game and a break from the mold of traditional shooters, and anyone craving an original game should definitely buy it.
