while i am not a big bose fan these speakers arent much different. nice sound but the low end needs alot to be desired. typical low end flubber wich i did not expect. hi and mids ok. the bass has that constant same sound like it is fixed very disapointed there. for $150 dont think i would recomend if u can get on sale for 100bucks ok.. would not recomend bose either(dont let the name fool u) To get the sound you probably desire u will end up spending over $4oo.. However surprisingly enough i would recomend the Logitech z623 for the $129 at bestbuy they will shock u. got some for my son and was shocked. solid-powerfull-good sound.(surprised me). There for i will probably be returning my klipsch and getting the Logitechs 330 watts power and i believe it. Klipsch 2oowatts . yes u feel the difference

Disappointing sound

First, I am well aware of the saying you get what you pay for but, in this case, I think I could have got better sound for cheaper. Or at the very least the same quality for cheaper. After reading all the rave reviews about the sound of these speakers I really had my hopes up. I really want to love these speakers, I do. But truth be told, my 10 year old Altec Lansing ACS 340's sound better than these. Unfortunately, based on reviews alone, I took a chance buying them without trying them first.because the display model was not working at the store.
With the exception of the base which is surprisingly nice for the size, rich with no busing or popping, everything sounds hollow and flat, no dimension at all. I plan to take these back.

I decided to try Bose out for the first time. I listened to many of the Demos, read reviews, etc. These speakers sounded nice, rich, and full at the store. They were also in my price range. I also considered the Companion 5, but those were not in my price range.
When I got them home, they sounded great at first. However, it's not uncommon for me to listen to music while I do a project around the house. This is where these speakers have serious limitations. Up close, they sound great. Take a few steps back, and the base drops out. Move a few steps over and the base kinda comes back, but something else drops out. It's really obvious. You can even test this out in the store. Play the demo and take a handful of steps away. It's not that music is all about the base. But, taking a few steps back from the speakers, the sound quickly goes from rich full sound to tin can really super quick.
If you need just some general computer speakers to listen to while sitting in front of the computer, I think these would work great. However, if you need speakers that can fill the room when you need them too. These do not fill the room at all. My previous speakers were a pair I bought for about $30 8 years ago. Those speakers fill the room. The $60 speakers that were next to the bose speakers... those filled a good portion of the store. These bose speakers couldn't fill an area a step or two away from the desk.
I ended up taking these speakers back. I'd probably check Bose out again, but it will be quite a number of years before I do.
