existing standard dishnetwork service
we have standard dishnetwork/satellite service to our home and we are looking at buying a NEW flat screen tv for christmas. We DO NOT want to upgrade our standard dish box to a HD dish box just to view our existing service, what should we look for when we are going to buy, or is it even possible to have standard service with the new hd-tv's?
It is possible to have standard service with the new HD Tv's. You just won't view the TV in High Def. If you upgrade your dish service it usually adds $10 a month, and you get your existing service plus HD channels. The only way to get the most out of an HD TV is to have HD service, otherwise your TV will look like when viewing your old TV's, just in a sleeker better looking Set. If you don't want to upgrade your service, don't spend the extra money on a 1080p TV, this gives you a clearer picture but is only used with a high def source.($5-10 extra w/dish). Save your money and get a 720p. If you want something bigger than 37" i have not seen any in 720p, they jump up to 1080p, unless you want to get a plasma(but i recommend LCD).
LG - 37" Class / 720p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV
LG - 32" Class / 720p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV
Sony - BRAVIA / 32" Class / 720p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV
