Loosely adapted from H.P. Lovecraft's Herbert West -- Re-Animator comes this sequel to one of the wildest, bloodiest, and funniest horror films to ever come down the pipe. Set eight months after the gruesome events of the first film, the follow-up opens with the demented Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) continuing to perfect his "re-agent" formula to regenerate dead tissue with the help of his ever-troubled assistant Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott). New characters include suspicious policeman Lt. Chapham (Claude Earl Jones) and Dr. Cain's old flame Francesca (Fabiana Udenio). Returning to Miskatonic Hospital after a short stint in the military, Dr. West and the reluctant, often unwitting, Cain plan to create new life from a patchwork of body parts -- including the heart of Cain's beloved girlfriend. However, things quickly get out of hand thanks to the snooping of Lt. Chapham and the return of the evil decapitated Carl Hill (David Gale) who wants revenge for his beheading. There's also the problem of West's dozens of oddball creations who want out of the dungeon in which they're trapped. It all comes to a head as Cain and West resurrect their "bride" just as Dr. Hill literally flies in to take his vengeance with the help of West's freakish creations.

Dr. Herbert West is back, and so are a number of the recently dead in this installment in the Re-Animator series, which gets a simple, but effective, presentation on DVD. Beyond Re-Animator has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1. The dialogue is in English, with no multiple language options. Bonus materials include a commentary track from director Brian Yuzna, a short documentary on the making of the film, a music video, and the picture's original trailer.

Taylor Hackford's The Devil's Advocate gets a superb DVD release with this package. The disc contains a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include an audio commentary by the director, a half hour of deleted scenes, production notes, theatrical trailers, and a pair of television commercials. Whatever one might think of the film, the superb technical job and the bountiful extras make this an engaging DVD.

William Friedkin's seminal horror classic The Exorcist has lost little of its impact over the years, and Warner's 25th Anniversary Edition DVD is a marvelous example of what the format can bring to a classic film. The picture quality is excellent throughout, although the early Iraq-set scenes are now particularly striking, and all the better in glorious widescreen. It is the sound as much as the visuals that makes The Exorcist so terrifying, so it is a relief that the Dolby 5.1 audio track is utterly faultless. The special features, located on the second side of the disc, are thorough, if not always a match for the main feature in terms of quality. There are, for example, not one but eight original theatrical trailers, and while those for The Exorcist are interesting (and in the case of the flash-image one, genuinely scary), the disc would probably be better off without a trailer for the silly sequel, Exorcist II: The Heretic. Also included are some rather bizarre television spots and some sketches and storyboards that are well worth a look. Brief excerpts of discussions between Friedkin and screenwriter William Peter Blatty illustrate the difference in vision between writer and director, notably over the ending (the original, more upbeat version of which is also included). There are commentary tracks by both Friedkin and Blatty, but both are somewhat disappointing. When Friedkin isn't rambling he is simply relaying the action with no background or insight, while Blatty's commentary, though better, has so little correlation to what is happening onscreen that it could hardly be called a commentary at all. By far the best special feature is "The Fear of God: 25 Years of the Exorcist," an outstanding documentary featuring revealing interviews with all the main protagonists. As well as detailing the film's troubled shoot and Friedkin's extreme methods of direction, it also includes missing scenes such as the famous "spider-walk" sequence. This is not quite a perfect DVD, but it is much closer to perfection than most DVDs get.

In 1985 The Return Of The Living Dead successfully mixed gore and laughs to create a horrific cult classic movie. In 1987 a poorly received sequel followed, aptly titled The Return of the Living Dead 2. Six years later would see the third (and final?) installment in this series in the form of director Brian Yuzna's Return of the Living Dead 3. The first strike against Trimark's release of Return of the Living Dead 3 is that this is not the uncut version, but the 97-minute R-rated version. This is likely to disappoint fans, though the fact that they're receiving an anamorphic widescreen version of the film should make amends. The picture looks better than expected, with colors vibrant and flesh tones looking very solid. There is some grain and dirt present on the print, but this is to be expected of a film with such a limited budget. Though certainly not reference quality, Return of the Living Dead 3 looks about as good as it's going to get. Audio is less than impressive, with a Dolby Digital Surround 2.0 track performing only slightly above par. Although the effects and music are mixed well, dialogue sometimes sounded slightly strained. Once again this is forgiven since the budget on the film was around the price of a Happy Meal. Also included are Spanish, English, and French subtitles. Return of the Living Dead 3 includes some surprisingly well-produced extra features. Two commentary tracks are included, the first with director Brian Yuzna. This track includes information on how the sequel came to be and how the effects were done, and although a bit dry, this is a very informative and entertaining commentary for fans of the series. The second commentary track is by actress Mindy Clarke and special effects supervisor Tom Rainone. This track leans a bit more to the lighter side than the first track. Both participants seemed to enjoy their experiences on the film, and every once in a while get a good laugh out of the goings-on in the movie. Also included is a trailer for Return of the Living Dead 3, plus a few other Trimark home video titles. Brought back to life on DVD, Return of the Living Dead 3 will make a worthy addition to any true horror fan's film collection.

It seems that korn just seems to get worse and worse every album. Don't get me wrong I love their first two albums, but after that I feel it all kind of went to S**t. I mean the 3rd was tollerable. But the forth was just awful. The untouchables wasn't far from that either. Now I must say I did kind of like take a look in the mirror, speaking as a metal head. But then they made untitled and that just was awful, just awful. And now this album is just "pethedic" and "Stupid". They really need to go back to doing heavy stuff, cause really, in my opinion, it doesn't sound good with anyone. I think that this is just a series of albums that are gonna keep getting worse and worse, until they realize they need to stick to heavyness.

why do you critize awesome metal bands/albums
July 18, 2010
i first noticed you saying good stuff about metal bands but in my opinon you are not as open to new music as me you called the world needs a hero by megadeth a dry album which i totally disagree with you stop hating on metal bands and metal music
The album is ok, but it is nothing I would really rave about. It is, in my opinion, probeblly the "dryist" Megadeth album. There wasn''t really anything magical about it. But it's not awful, it's just not magical at all, magical meaning: the solos are bland, the music itself is bland. I don't think I would recomend this album to a friend. If you have to choose between this and another megadeth album, I strongly suggest you choose the other one, cause this album is by far the worst album, as far as the music goes.

This album is a break from the Coldplay normal, but not all breaks are bad. I like this album for its innovation in sound and creativity. No two tracks are the same either. In terms of price though, this album is one of those "almost-rip-offs" because it only has 10 tracks on it.

actually 12 songs if you include the hidden tracks
July 27, 2010
you misscounted theirs only 12 songs on the album if you include the two hidden tracks
This sounds like a cross between R.I.P. and S.F.S.G.S.W. only a little better. The only thing thats lacking is the drums. They are very good but lack the style and creativity that only Menza had. This has to be one of the best CD's of 2009.

I also listened to the whole album on Kid's facebook and it is awesome! He went a total different route with this album leaving his twisted brown trucker band behind. It's a little country and rock but the cd takes on a total different feel from his previous work. So go out and support this album you won't be dissapointed!
