Universal's Collector's Edition American Pie DVD is a feature-filled single disc that is like a tempting desert after a big meal: even though you're satisfied with the main course, you don't want to finish just yet. The movie itself, of course, is the main course, and this DVD presents it in a sharp anamorphic widescreen version with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The soundtrack is in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound -- clear and loud enough to satisfy even the most demanding film gourmet. After the home audience has digested that viewing treat, however, out rolls a packed desert cart of extras. The special features menu includes a behind-the-scenes featurette, with cast members talking about the film; a frequently raucous film commentary with director Paul Weitz, producer Chris Weitz, screenwriter Adam Herz, and cast members Eddie Kaye Thomas (Finch), Jason Biggs (Jim), and Seann William Scott (Stifler); outtakes; and a soundtrack promo. But that's not all. The disk also contains production notes, cast and filmmaker bios, a theatrical trailer, some memorable quotes from the film, and various musical highlights from the bands featured in the film. There are also special DVD-ROM features on the disc, including a behind-the-scenes feature.
