This is actually my first DSLR. If this is going to be your first, plan on spending hours reading the manuel. After a couple days of playing with it I feel like I finally know what i'm doing.
I actually bought it mainly for the HD video quality. But plan on getting some sort of stabilizer or only use on a tripod. The handheld video is VERY shaky.
The depth of field is amazing. I bought several lenses: EF 50mm 1.4 and EF 17-40mm L 4. This is such a great combo.
One thing that surprised me was on the second day I owned it, I was filming and when reviewing I noticed a dead pixel right in the middle of my videos. It looked horrible - but it turns out I just had something (dust or something) on the sensor or it needed to be reset. I took the lens off and manually cleaned the sensor for about 30 seconds. Put the lens back on and it was perfect.
Overall, I'm VERY happy with this camera. Invest in some good glass and you will too!
