Mine just died after two years. There's a five year warranty, but after calling Haier to try and get it serviced, found that their warranty service was next to impossible, and would cost just as much as buying a new one of a reputable brand (I bought this unit for $299.99 in 2008). The compressor gave out on mine - followed two days later by the fan unit (which I was relying on for some ventilation until I received more cash to pay for a new unit!).
The unit's construction was fairly poor also - the case was flimsy, and required lots of work to keep the fan from scraping against the case, even when installed using the provided directions.
Save yourself hassle and frustration, and spend the extra money to get a better unit.
What's great about it: Cheap
What's not so great: Flimsy case, poor reliability, impossible to service
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
