A Sam Rockwell tour de force

Edgar Wright is one of our generations greatest auteurs. Just when you think you have the film figured out, a plot twist sends you on another trip to a infinitely more interesting story. The actors in his films seem tailor made for their roles.

The epitome of film noir

despite the reported claims of this film shoot being a trying time for all involved, the crime thriller stands out above the rest in its genre. Nicholson, Dunaway, and Polanski were considered a toxic combination aside from this film, but thankfully for us, they were able to deliver a masterpiece.

What a sequel should be

as a sequel to the underrated "The Raid", this film belongs in the rare pantheon of sequels that stand up to its predecessor, like the second Godfather. This film engulfs you in its aura and ceases to release you until the credits begin rolling. Hopefully the director, Gareth Evans, continues his auteur path and continues with films like this and does not succumb to the industry whims of selling out and making big budget, blockbuster movies.
