Great Budget 4k TV

I wanted to get my dad a 65" 4k for sub $900 and this fit the bill. His 1080p LED projection TV finally failed after a decade. Follow the unboxing instructions and it is easy to install the stand and get the TV upright and going. Set up does take some time, as it is not just turn on and go. 3 HDMI's were enough. Liam delivers in a grim crime story

This is not a full-blown action flick so don't expect car chases and Liam popping off the thugs every ten minutes. It takes it's time and let's the viewer ponder for a slower paced but gritty ride. It does have some violent images and acts that will stick in your head. Liam plays the investigator with cool swagger as he navigates the seedy areas of NY to find two maniac serial killers. If you enjoy the thriller genre or true crime stories you should enjoy Tombstones. It's similar in tone with Silence Of The Lambs, Prisoners, Seven. The on location shots of decaying cities in NY really added to the feel of the story.

Great American Movie

Really intense film. I was in Cambridge during the events and saw hundreds of police cars converging at fast speed on Watertown, a really sleepy little bedroom town next to Boston, across the Charles River. I remember that being in a lockdown was eerie. Boston and neighboring four towns were affected. All of us stayed inside and police helicopters flew overhead, looking for movement. It was really scary -- like being in a war zone. After the shelter in place order was lifted around 6 pm on the second day, the man with the boat went out to smoke and peeked inside his boat and saw the second bomber semi conscious inside.
I was surprised and glad that the police took him alive. They were pretty pumped up as there had been a vicious shooting of an MIT campus police officer the day before. He was killed execution style in his car, with his gun still in its holster. The cold vicious nature of the killing affected the police. Police are a very tight knit group in Boston. Transit cop, University cop -- it didn't matter.
The whole experience was as terrible and chilling as depicted. And the spirit of Boston Strong that was born that day was real. The courage of everyone was incredible. And people cheered police after the arrest was made, as shown. Yes, that was very real.
Five stars for bringing the whole experience back so realistically. Made me cry.
Second bomber: A federal jury gave him death. In a liberal place like Massachusetts. It was the death of the young boy that sealed it. And defendants flipping the bird to a security camera. He was unrepentant and passive during the trial. In the sentencing portion, he read a statement of apology but it did not appear to be his own. Four years later, he sits on death row in a supermax prison in Colorado. Appeals could take years.

I purchased an LG OLED 65 inch curved screen...I have an xbox one s...there is a lot of user generated 4k even with hdr that has amazed me. To say that I was blown away..words can not begin to explain. There are 2 sequences that come to mind. One involving a pack of lions chasing down a giraffe which is as amazing for the camera angles as the 4k HDR presentation...but the one that really blew my mind involved close ups on some Golden Eagles battling over a carcass. The 4k image along with the brilliant colors and lighting of HDR..the close ups and slow motion of the battle..the details and colors of the eagles themselves that no human eye could ever pick up on its own..for that scene alone..as amazing and beautiful and powerful as the greatest action scene in the greatest action film..that alone made 4k worth it.

Incredible Story of Heroism

We see lots of movies with great daring do but rarely do we see a movie the actually depicts the true life heroism of an actual American Hero. Desmond T. Doss, a Seventh Day Adventist who could not in good conscience pick up a rifle found another way to serve his country and his fellows. He became a combat medic. From his actual citation for the award of the Congressional Medal of Honor......." As our troops gained the summit, a heavy concentration of artillery, mortar and machine gun fire crashed into them, inflicting approximately 75 casualties and driving the others back. Pfc. Doss refused to seek cover and remained in the fire-swept area with the many stricken, carrying all 75 casualties one-by-one to the edge of the escarpment...." Imagine that, carrying 75 men to safety, one at a time, through a storm of shot and shell so fierce that the other soldiers were driven from the field.
Double Oscar winner Mel Gibson directs as he has directed other amazing films like The Passion of the Christ, Braveheart and Apocalypto. Writers Andrew Knight and Robert Schenkkan are best known for their many scripts for TV. The writers tall task is to write the dialog and the story that shows Doss for what he is, a man of faith from a rural area but without mocking him or making him seem mawkish. These two TV guys manage to do it. They also take the time in their script to develop the life history of Doss. When he shows his amazing heroism we have a sense of the man so his acts do not seem disconnected from the person.

His Doss is humble, strong in his beliefs and when the need arose, for a period of a few days in his life, called upon his God for strength to save the lives of others and was answered. His fellow soldiers called his success a miracle. He is backed up by Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) as his girl, a very different Vince Vaughn as the company sergeant and Sam Worthington.
Hacksaw Ridge runs for a good long two hours and 11 minutes. It carries an R rating for realistic violence. Gibson is known as a director for holding nothing back in terms of realistic carnage and he holds nothing back here. The movie gets the R for violence-be warned. The producers made the film with a smallish for Hollywood $40 million.
Desmond T. Doss also received the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and the Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters (the clusters signify multiple awards). His citation singled him out for "outstanding gallantry far above and beyond the call of duty." Truly he represents the best of the 'Greatest Generation'.
On a side note for movie buffs, the period equipment and weaponry is spot on. Gibson had excellent advisers and scroungers on his team. The American arms are all in period as they should be and even the Japanese weapons are authentic to the period.

Great, huge mixer

I originally had a KitchenAid pro 500 series with a 325 watt "heavy duty" motor with metal gears and a solid transmission design which I purchased over 20 years ago from Williams-Sonoma in "Williams-Sonoma Green." I moved, changed to an all black and white kitchen and with hardly any counter space, it was relegated to a hall closet. At 30lbs it was unwieldy at best, so the little baking I did became even littler. I finally sold it.
However, I do like to cook and I felt vulnerable w/o a mixer. I figured my Cuisinart food processor would fill the gap, but it didn't quite hit that same sweet spot, and a hand mixer, well, it was just so -- hand mixer.
When KitchenAid announced it was coming out with the Artisan-mini it sounded like the perfect solution--a stand mixer that conserved counter-space. I figured I would wait until some reviews were in and now that they are, I'm glad I didn't buy it. It sounds like it's a dog of a machine and at $335 (now it's a bit lower), it seemed comparatively expensive. Also, it's only 250 watts, which is just 25 watts above KitchenAid's hand mixer. It all came down to a big "why bother?"
I turned elsewhere. The tilt head machines (Artisan, Classic Plus, Artisan Design) seemed to be plagued by mechanical issues arising from a combination of price-saving plastic and metal parts. Buyers complained about a clanking noise, a grinding sound and metal shavings flaking into food. There were problems with the hinge mechanism-- over time the head would loosen, rock from side to side or break altogether. Models with coated attachments had problems with surface peeling with the result that plastic coating, sometimes in combination with metal shavings and grease, fell into the food.
I wanted this as a mainstay in my kitchen, something that would provide years of use, not built-in obsolescence. My philosophy is to buy the right thing once, even if I have to pay more. I was becoming sorry I sold my old model, despite the fact it was green.
I then discovered this model which has been discontinued by KitchenAid. It doesn't say it's "solid state" but comments indicate it's all metal parts, and I confirmed with the company it has the Direct-Drive Transmission and All-Metal Construction. It doesn't have the tilt-head mechanism, but instead the more reliable bowl lift design which is a characteristic of the larger models, which is what my old one had. Yes, it's big and heavy, but 5 quarts is still smaller than 6 or 7 and it's powerful, not the puny 250 watts of the Artisan-mini or KitchenAid Classic. According to reviewers this was made in 425 and 525 watt versions. I'm pleased that Amazon intuited my preference and sent me the more powerful 525 watt version.
As far as differences are concerned, the paddle, dough hook and bowl seem lighter and thinner than than the ones that came with my old KitchenAid. Items such as bowl cover, pouring guard and quilted cover that were included with my KitchenAid are now sold as "extras," but at least they're available.
As far as power is concerned, it comfortably handled cookie dough, but that's not much of a test so we'll see. Are the attachments tough enough? we'll see. on that too. I'll update this as necessary.
I did not put the bowl or paddle in the dishwasher. I noticed that a greasy residue remained on the bowl and paddle even after cleaning. I washed it again and again then tried 409 but they still don't feel clean. The bowl also seems to have become stained -- by cookie dough? For an all stainless bowl, I think this is weird.
Yes, it's big and heavy but I've made room for this so it can remain on the counter. In terms of price, I got a lot more for less. This was at least $100 less than the Artisan-mini, it's compatible with all KitchenAid's many accessories whereas the Artisan-mini isn't, and I won't need to think twice about what I use it for--it's large enough to handle all my needs and at 525 watts it's a much more powerful and hopefully better made machine than the tilt-head versions.
All in all, this seems to be one of the most reliable models available--now if I could only clean that bowl to my satisfaction
