Can you use it on your computer?
No, it's an hdmi plug in. If your monitor has one, you can plug it through that but not the computer itself.

will the fire stick pick up a signal from my router
It varies on the router signal. The the fire stick doesn't have great wireless signal but the fire tv box does.
