batteries ruptured

so i bought one of these and had it for about a year. it was only really exposed to brown outs and 1 power failure lasting about an hour. well after the year was up, it would still work i noticed but the batter life was infinitely smaller. nothing additional was plugged into it and it went from and an hour and 1/2, down to 17 minutes. then about 2 weeks after i noticed that, we had a brown out and it didn't kick over but instead made alot of really loud chirps that could not be silenced, muted, and when power was restored, it continued until you unplugged the unit completely, waited for it to die, and then plugged it back in with nothing else attached. upon further inspection i was unable to remove the batteries because they had expanded a bit inside the housing and i have to get a device to clamp to the battery to rip it out. that's when i was able to see that the other end of the battery down in the unit had ruptured, it didn't leak anything out thank goodness so i could purchase a replacement battery, but if this is the kind of reliability this company provides, then i'm not going to waste $50-80 on a replacement fire hazard.
