Go low-tech to receive HDTV signals with this RCA digital indoor TV antenna. Perfect in a large urban area with lots of local TV channels, this low-profile antenna provides a 12-position switch for fine tuning reception. This RCA digital indoor TV antenna captures signals in a 40-mile range and installs easily.

Unless you're on top of the broadcast tower, I wouldn't bother with this thing.

Signal strength is terrible

This might not be their fault. For all I know the FCC says they can't make it any stronger. But the signal strength is poor enough that you had to fiddle with the positioning of the unit in your car to be able to hear it.
Worse, you need to turn the sound up on your car stereo before you can even hear it. And by the time you get it loud enough, you've amplified background static in the FM spectrum to such an extent that the sound quality is poor.
It is too bad. I'll probably have to buy a new stereo simply to get an Audio in jack.

what is an upconvert dvd

It is a DVD player that takes in standard definition video and then blows it up to increase the resolution.

Keep in mind, they do not actually increase the definition of the video you're watching. They just increase the resolution. Think of a photograph that gets blow up to be a lot bigger. Sure, it is bigger... but it gets blurrier in the process.

That is basically what an up convert box does. The image generally doesn't look any better or worse after going through the box and I'm a little confused as to why they even exist since most TVs these days will up convert natively.

i have an old rear projection tv will an upconvert dvd player work on it?

Depends on the dvd player. The DVD player will probably need Analog Out to work with an old TV like that.

Your old TV probably either takes the Yellow, Red, and White cable or it just takes a Coaxial cable.

Upconvert DvD players often only have HDMI out. As a result, they probably won't work with a tv like that. However, this will be model by model specific.

What you want to check is the output ports on the DVD player and the input ports on the tv.

Citing the specific model numbers of each unit will help people to answer your question.

Need a home theather system to go with LG - 55" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LED-LCD HDTV

Looking for something with great sound small fooot print and loads of options.
What options are you looking for here specifically? There are some extremely complicated systems that I could recommend but I'm pretty sure you will just find it confusing. Ideally, you want just enough features to do what you need without cluttering up things with lots of features you don't want.

Not only will you pay for those features regardless of whether you use them but the systems tend to have the same simplistic interface regardless of how many options they have. So as you add features the same tiny interface tends to have to control an increasingly complex system.

As such, complexity is not your friend in most cases simply because the interfaces tend to be so limited.

what type of home theater works with insignia plasma 42 inch tv

From what I could gather these are you plugs:

HDMI (version 1.3, HDCP): 1 rear, 1 side
Component: 1 rear
Composite A/V: 1 rear, 1 side
RF: 1 rear
PC input (15-pin, D-Sub): 1 rear
PC audio input: 1 rear
Digital audio output: 1 optical, rear
USB: 1 side
Headphone out: 1 side
RS-232c input: 1 rear

Of these, the best to use for a media center plug in would be your HDMI connector. Any system that has HDMI output should be fine for your tv.

Looking for an outdoor stereo unit, the one i have got wet and doesnt work any suggestions??

Personally, I like the portable bluetooth speakers. You can move them around so they're in just the right place and you can link them to your cell phone or tablet to provide sound.

If you don't like that... try either the Sonos system or contact an installer to run cable, drill holes, and install a classic system.

how can i find an amp?

I'm looking for a new amp cause mine want out for my surround sound system that i have.
I think you're actually asking for a "subwoofer" . Search for one of those instead and I think you'll find it is what you want.
