In the box is the reviever and the remote, along with all the manuals and warranty card. Set up is simple enough after you give it power and sources. Has larger plugs for L & R speaker connection(banana plug) and standard clip plugs for center and surround. Woofer has an RCA connect. I have all plugs in use for speakers and the reviever handles it great. Nice customization if you need to have awkward speaker placements, and find the need to adjust volume for each speaker. You can customize each source which is cool if you don't have an abundance of sources to switch in the back. Plenty of Jack's in my opinion for a simple setup. Cable box, PS4, plus you can have old analog devices. Good reviever.
Remote is weak, has to be direct line of site. But does not take away from quality.

It sounds like you want to use the LCD TV speakers and supplement the sound by adding a sub to it. I do not think many audiophiles would support your desire but it should technically be possible. Depending on your television. Most TV's have an audio out(RCA, headphone, Optical). You will most likely need to utilize a Y adapter for RCA. Or a DAC, should you choose to use digital optical. Keep in mind you are at the mercy of your televisions audio capabilities, which are not always the best.
