Is the photo black cartridge required if I'm not printing photos?
This printer meets my needs best even though I am not going to print photos. Will I need to purchase the black photo ink cartridge over time due to age of ink, or expiration dates?

i have not had a problem with ink drying out, but I would only buy ink on an as needed basis.
you have to set the printer to only print using black cartridge. it will be in the printerr setting menu.
