I bought several of these speakers for around the house to have music in every zone. You can individually adjust each speaker's volume so as you move through the home the sound is seamless. The only problem is occasionally it takes a few minutes for all the speakers to gain a wi-Fi signal. Also, I have alder "smart tv" and am unable to pair them with it for surround sound in addition to my older cinemate system. I saw that you can pair them with the newer systems though. The sound is tremendous, very clear and distinctive. I would have given 5 stars except for the problems I mentioned

Yes, the speakers must be plugged into an outlet and somewhere they can get a good wi-fi signal
