It's alway good to have and extra one on hand, I tried off brand from ebay and they lasted 1 charge, so I decided to go back to the GoPro brand. Only used it once so far but I'm sure it will be good.

Not for a GoPro hero 5

If you use this for the GoPro 5 it blocks the on/off button and the mic. I did watch videos online and it showed a couple of different things you could use try to adapt it or buy an adapter but that didn't work for me. I wasn't going to try to rig it to work or spend more money to get an adapter. I also couldn't get the firmware to open after downloading it. I email company for assistance but didn't get any response. So I returned it. Maybe if you were just using it for you phone it would be ok.
