I replaced an older powerline adapter and this one is much faster. I like that I am able to use the old adapter in another room. The wifi works great on the 5 GHz channel too. Keep in mind that performance depends entirely on the electrical wiring in the house. I had to switch electric outlets because one of them caused interference with my home theater.

Does the extender wifi get the same network ID as the wireless router it is connected to?
No it does not. There are two extension networks visible. One is 2.4 GHz and the other is 5 GHz.
