Small size and price, high performance DSLR.

Sometimes bigger isn't better. This is a superb camera for a very modest price, a wide range of lenses and accessories modestly priced. Performance of the base camera with zoom is right up there with the much bigger and more expensive DSLR's. Mirrorless, fast autofocus. You can carry the base camera in a suitcoat pocket. You will hardly know it is there.

I use a 48" SONY BRAVIA (bought at Best Buy) as a monitor. Cable got mangled. New one from Best Buy, under $10. Works as well or better than the pricey one it replaces. You do not have to pay more to get more.

Lowepro--trust your best to their cases.

Samsung Galaxy cameras are BIG and HEAVY by current standards. The WWW camera needs a solid shock absorbing water repellant case. And Lowepro is it, and for $11 a steal. The SAMSUNG case is leather, in a most unattractive brown, and costs $50. This is 1/5 the price and works better. The accessory pocket is handy for memory and such.

can it be used in a bathroom?

I use it only in the BR. If in the bathroom I'd keep it off the floor and in an elevated dry place.

Easily capture special moments as they unfold with this Nikon Coolpix S7000 digital camera, which features optical image stabilization, 1080/60i high-definition video recording and long-zoom capability to help you shoot the subjects you want.Memory card sold separately.

Is this a wide angle camera?

Cameras like the one you ask about are Point and Shoot and come with zoom lenses. First difficulty with your question is that there are two basic answers.

Technical one comes first. Historically the term "normal" and "wide angle" and "telephoto" are defined by the old film dimensions of the 35mm negative. Normal focal lengths were 50-55mm. That's about the diagonal of the negative. Wide angle focal lengths were 'smaller numbers' so that more image got into the same basic negative. A wide angle would run from 24MM to 35MM. And a telephoto would run from 85mm to whatever, like 500mm. Divide the focal length of the lens by 50 and you get (for teles) the magnification (like what power of binocs you are using--500mm is ten power). Second answer is "what do you need/expect."

Today the zooms do all three, and well. You can get a LOT into an image with a lens with a wide angle focal length of 24-28mm. 24mm is VERY wide angle. I got a bronze star in VN with two lenses on Nikons 28mm and 85mm.

With Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, this 20.1-megapixel Sony DSC-W830 digital camera allows you to take crisp, blur-free pictures, even with shaky hands. The high-definition movie mode lets you preserve special moments in vibrant 720p resolution. ..

Why does it take so long to see the picture you just took?

I suspect that you are saving LARGE images. Check. It takes time to get these into your camera memory. SIZE is issue #1. Second, you might be using a "slow" memory chip. Today's large images encourage the use of fast chips, with upload speeds of 60mb/s or higher. I have most images from this camera at ~7MB/image. I use chips with speeds of 60mb/sec. SPEED is issue #2. You can set the JPEG compression to a higher compression, smaller saved image, and you can use faster chips.
The camera performance will improve if you do those. Check out the recommendations on the $2000 DSLR and they sortof explain this.

Sony or canon t5 rebel

I am debating between this camera or canon t5 rebel. How this camera compares to canon rebel?
Do you think this Sony is a good buy???
Thanks
I voted with my $$ buying the SONY. But the CANON is a super camera also. Recommend careful review of the professional reviews and of the tech specs assuming you think you know which are most relevant in your normal use of the camera. Tough call. Both very good cameras.

How fast is the focus on this camera

Having trouble with my cannonsx170 in waiting for the auto focus...need something faster for bird and action shots
Slow auto focus is a real nuisance. If you are shooting action, like my hobby of shooting dancers, and it's in a club or poorly lit situation, the auto focus is a shot killing enemy, with virtually all cameras. The trick to minimizing the issue is to adjust the effective ISO, or "electronic film speed" to a significantly larger number, so that the camera can focus more quickly because the depth of field increases. But this increases "granularity" in the shot, with images likely to appear grainy our coarse. And with some cameras even that isn't good enough. I own some of these. Great outside, not good for moving subjects indoors where flash will be involved. Won't name names but it is an issue.

Aperture priority not working

OK, i'm using the lens that came with the camera. Switch it to AP mode for shooting, how would you proceed taking the shot then?
The smart aleck answer is, hit the shutter. The serious answer is, why did you choose the AP mode. Shutter preferred means the camera "chooses" the shutter speed you specified and adjusts the aperture to get a correctly exposed picture. Used often to reduce blur on action shots of fast moving subjects. Aperture preferred is often used where the depth of field is important (like portraits in particular). You set the aperture, two extreme examples, as wide open and that radically reduces depth of field to a shallow plane and if that shallow sharp focus plane includes a subject face it will be in focus but objects in front or back of the plane will tend to be out of focus. If you want everything in the picture "sharp" with AP, subject motion cannot be an issue. But set the aperture as "closed" or "small opening" and it will cause the camera to reduce shutter speed relatively to get a correct exposure, like a scenic with foreground objects and a background some distance away where you want BOTH in sharp focus, and motion isn't an issue.

PictBridge

What is PictBridge? Is it beneficial to have on your camera?
PictBridge is the name of an industry standard for firmware (built-in software) that allows digital cameras and printers to communicate directly with each other. The firmware allows a digital camera to send images to the printer without requiring the assistance of a computer or any special image-editing software.

A PictBridge-compliant camera connects directly to a PictBridge-compliant printer with a standard USB cable. Once the devices have established a connection, the camera will “talk” to the printer and ask which PictBridge functions the printer has. When the printer answers, the camera will display a menu on its LCD screen or viewfinder with print options. After a print function has been selected and the print job is completed, the printer will send confirmation back to the camera.

PictBridge is vendor-neutral but both the camera and the printer must be PictBridge-compliant for the software to work. The standard is overseen by the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA). To determine whether a camera or printer is PictBridge-compliant, look for the PictBridge logo or consult the product specifications listed in the owner's manual.

How long will this camera be on sale?

That is a question only company marketing folks, either the manufacturer or BEST BUY the retailer knows the answer to. But I am guessing that since the 6000 represents a next step, the 5000 will be at reduced price until inventory goes to near zero.

Aperture priority not working

My wife is trying to figure out the aperture priority, zooming in the the shot and bluring the background. How does she do this? She choses the mode, then focuses the area she wants but it doesn't blur the background.
In order for the background to be blurred you have to shoot with the lens "wide open" which lessens the effective depth of field. I am not sure what you mean by your comment on zooming in, but if you select the aperture as wide open and set the focus on the object you want to be sharp the camera will give you a shallow depth of field shot.

a5000 or a6000

Which you would you recommend. Sony Alpha a5000 or Sony Alpha a6000. I have only ever had a point and shoot. I want the next step up that will take great pics. In between a point and shoot and a DSLR. This would be an every day camera for me.
Both of these cameras are superb. I bought the slightly less expensive 5000 but were money not a major consideration I'd go with the 6000. Either way you get a superb camera, filling the needs you stated.
