Clapton's Last?

Legendary guitarist Eric Clapton has given us a series of various interpretations of the blues he so dearly loves over the years - in recent times much of his solo output has been on the mellow side. And a fair amount of this album is also, though some of its tracks have more punch to them. But no matter how it sounds - and technically it is nearly perfect, being produced by the legendary Glyn Johns, who has worked on more classic rock monuments than just about anyone in the business - it is tinged with the sadness that Clapton is suffering a debilitating nerve condition that may force him to stop playing. This is a nice way to go if that's what it is.

The start of an era - now better sounding

The first Metallica CD has been remastered and now sounds as good as it probably ever will. Many of their fans still prefer this album, the beginning of what was then called Thrash Metal because of its high speed guitar runs. And they got even better in the albums which followed.

Sticky Fingers is one of the best albums in the Rolling Stones catalog and this latest remaster does it plenty of justice. Excellent sound brings out some detail that I couldn't hear before. The bonus disc presents some different versions of the familiar studio songs, plus several live oldies from a tour of the time. Highly recommended!

It's Led Zeppelin

Yet another wonderful job by Jimmy Page in the remastering of the Zeppelin catalog. The details and color of this music are sharper than ever - the synthesizer intro to "In the Light", John Bonham's booming kick drum in the familiar classic "Kashmir", Page's own slide leads on "in My Time of Dying" and more - have a crispness never quite brought out by past remastering. The extra disc of these songs taking shape is not essential but is interesting. But this album never needed extras - it is a complete treat by itself, and is now a better treat than ever!

Does what I need

I needed a portable CD player to hook up to computer speakers so I could listen to music when I go to sleep at night. This has a line out jack which allows that to happen. The sound is fine and it also has an FM radio in case I want to use it (though I have not yet). Two things I don't like - the sound cuts out more frequently than on my old player (skips; not sure if it is because I play burned mp3 discs most of the time or if it a characteristic of this player), and it is harder to open/close than my old player.

Another fine Black Keys CD

Many people feel this is the finest album yet by the Black Keys. It certainly is more adventurous than its predecessor "El Camino", and in the long term may be more satisfying as well. There will likely be lots of folks lining up to hear it when the group hits the road for a lengthy fall tour.
