Its Ink. A warning to other Epson printer owners though. It appears that once you switch to the XL size cartridge you cant switch back to a regular ink cartridge. I had a regular size on from a combo pack of color and black inks. They were official Epson Ink but the printer would not recognize the black ink cartridge. Once I bought a replacement XL cartridge it recognized that no problem

So as far as microwaves are concerned this one does the job but then again if it didn't we would have returned it. Some of the features aren't easy to use and require some research as the manual that came with it isn't the clearest about how to use them.
