This is the easiest phone holder in the world to use. Magnets! No problem. I thought it would do something bad to my phone but it doesn't seem to bother it at all.

I was replacing my old one. It lasted a long time and worked well. Had it hooked up to cable. We suffered many power bumps in our last storm and I think that is what finished the old one off. Yet, it worked many years as I said. I was satisfied that I had gotten my monies worth and did not regret buying another.

It drops connection repeatedly.

Hey. If it doesn't work, It doesn't work. I wanted to use it to stream SlingBox. It worked, but keeps dropping connection. Like every two minutes. Tried their support. They just told me there was nothing wrong with their box. Great for you! So I took it back to the store.
What's great about it: Nothing.
What's not so great: It drops connection repeatedly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Would the magnet stick to the outside of a plastic case ok?
IPhone 6 with a lifeproof case on it.
No. But they provide a couple of different thin metal pieces that adhere to plastic cases. Works sort of like velcro. In day to day use, You can't even tell it's there. I'd almost forgotten. My wife has an iphone 5 with a Lifeproof case, and I have a iphone 6 plus with an otter case. I haven't heard any complaints from her, and I don't have any either. The piece of metal is what sticks to the magnet.
