Nice Mouse, with some room for improvement
on September 17, 2022
Posted by: RedOmen
I typically do not like using larger style mice and generally go for more compact sizes, but I actually enjoyed using this mouse for gaming, although there are some cons I'll get to later.
Most mice this size feel extra heavy, but this one feels as light as a mouse less than half its size, making it more user-friendly for gaming than other mice this size. The amount and placement of buttons (including one that you can switch out to a small or large size) give you great options for personal preferences for gaming. I'm a huge fan of the scroll wheel moving from free-flow to incremental, which happens at the push of a dedicated button just above the wheel. The RGB lighting is delightful, and a storage area below the power switch on the bottom of the device allows you to store the USB dongle for safe keeping. Tracking is superb (as is common on Logitech devices it seems), and I was able to guide the device on literally every surface i could think of or access. I didnt try distance tracking, so I cannot speak to performance in this area.
On the down side, this mouse is strictly controlled through the dongle, as opposed to having Bluetooth capability, which is a limitation when compare to some of Logitech's own other wireless gaming mice that can use both a dongle and Bluetooth on any Bluetooth-capable device. The storage area underneath the mouse cannot fit the small or large button alongside the dongle, so there is high likelihood of losing the button if you carry it through other means for preferred switching of sizes between games or productivity work.
The biggest issue I had overall was with the downloadable software application for the mouse. It uses the G HUB app, and the app is not intuitive at all, forcing you to go through a demo to get to the RGB controls, which are a separate set of options from the ones you can download and use on a completely different screen; Options loop around repetitively, and require that you basically click on almost every option in order to figure out where to go or what to press to do whatever you are trying to do through the app. I stumbled across how to activate saving settings directly to the device, and then stumbled across how to get to a game profile while trying to figure out how to switch the RGB settings (which appear in two different areas, the least convenient of which is where the main controls are actually located). Not sure what the design team was thinking when they slopped every menu they could think of into random locations, but it needs a TON of work. had it not been for the mouse itself being so fun to use and look at, the menu options alone would have cost this device two stars.
Overall, I'd recommend the mouse to others, even if they prefer smaller mice, for both gaming and regular productivity needs, but I would certainly warn them about how disorganized the settings are through the G HUB app if they are intending to use this mouse for gaming.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Solid Effort, But May Not Be Everyone's Taste...
on July 27, 2022
Posted by: RedOmen
Although Sony continues to lead with creativity and quality in the very crowded market of Blue Tooth speakers overall (especially for Bass Lovers), This latest effort is not quite what I have come to expect from Sony speakers, although still a solid speaker overall.
Blue Tooth connections were smooth, seamless, and very easy and intuitive to do, so no surprises there. I am a fan of speakers that still have physical buttons on the speaker, in case of unforeseen issues that could arise from speakers that almost strictly use apps to operate. The dedicated battery stamina button is great and appreciated, above using a system of beeps and flashes like other less user-friendly devices of this type. The shape/design of the speaker seems to help give a fuller sound from all angles, with no noticeable drop in sound quality regardless of the position of the speaker.
Battery Life was also great, with what felt to me to be a fairly quick charge for a speaker that can go days with fairly heavy usage. Standby battery power retention is also great, as I meant to take this on vacation but forgot it for a week, and returned to find it was still sitting at a full 100% charge after leaving it for a week. Portability is also great, especially with the handy carrying cord attached to it, and it is sized in a way that fits nicely within a book bag or travel case too.
The reason for the one-star deduction is regarding sound control, as Treble control is limited. There are no preset EQs or specific Bass boost function on this model, and unlike other Sony speakers I've used in the past, a virtual EQ from an app or computer is not as responsive here. Default sound is balanced enough to please the average music listener, and there's enough Bass control for a Bass lover to be content, but don't expect to manually tune out the treble to enjoy the bass line. Those soaring vocals will be ever-present regardless of what EQ settings you are using, although at lower volume levels, the speaker's Bass production can be felt more powerfully than at higher volumes, where things can be a bit muddy with the vocals and Bass together (again, a bit unusual for a Sony product). At time of writing, I was not able to access my Sony Music app, so it is possible there could be some sort of Sony-specific sound controls to alter the EQ of the speaker, but even if this is the case, I'd have taken a star off for that being the only way to access special sound settings.
This will please most users without needing any adjustments, especially if you really want to hear those vocals clearly and consistently, but if you are looking for something to keep a party thumping to the Bass with minimal vocals (or more evenly balanced vocals), you may want to look into one of Sony's other more powerful Bass producing devices. Again, not bad, but not necessarily able to give you that extra bump that some more Bass-heavy speakers from Sony and others can give you. A good mid-ranger for any music-lover's speaker collection, but not necessarily la-creme-de-la-creme for Bass lovers. Would recommend, but caution Bass aficionados, as there are many competitors (even within Sony's own line-up) that may meet Bass needs better in this class range.

Packs a Punch, but less able to customize
on June 11, 2021

I am a fan of Sony products in general and their speakers always deliver great sound. This device is among them, but perhaps not at the top of that list for devices in this category.
The Bluetooth pairing was highly efficient as the speaker seemed to connect itself to my device almost immediately upon turning it on for the first time. I later tried paired it on my own to another device, and it still connected very quickly. The physical styling looks more sleek and modern than my older XB10 version of this device. The older version was completely smooth, making you rely on sight to operate appropriately, but this version has slightly raised operating symbols that allow for more tactile operation, especially in dark or dimmer lighting conditions.
The sound is only EQ friendly to the Bass, as you can modify Bass response freely, however, it appears to be internally tuned to emphasize treble regardless of EQ settings, so you are not really able to fully emphasize the Bass. There is "enough" bass for an average music lover to be satisfied, but it was not as punchy as its XB10 predecessor in this regard. You get the fullest bass sound by setting your EQ to mono settings instead of stereo, but again, it will be a slightly muted experience if you are looking for truly Extra Bass.
There was an app referenced in some of the device documents that arrived in the box, but I was unsuccessful in getting it to connect, and I believe this device is actually not comparable with the app.
I'd recommend this for lovers of vocals and treble, and I think it has enough bass for most. It just won't make bass lovers feel like it has Extra Bass. Considering the size, the sound is great for a portable speaker this size, but there are other options for those who want truly expansive bass at this size. I'd recommend, even to bass lovers at this size, although bass lovers have other options in this category of speakers.

Invigorating Light!
on June 4, 2021

Thought this would be more of a gimmick than anything else, but boy was I surprised at what a little bit of intense lighting can do for you in the morning! I am not a morning person by nature, much more of a night owl, so getting up & getting energized in the morning is always a process for me. Snoozing my alarm is a regular part of my extended wake-up process, and I've become accustomed to it. I tried using this light in the morning consistently for a few weeks, and I actually did away with the snooze routine within the first couple of days of use. I still stay up later than I probably should, but my sleep has become deeper, to the extent that I feel much more rested and energized throughout the day, no doubt due to the invigorating light this thing kicks out.
I also use it for when I'm Zoom calling from my office at work (which is currently only one day a week) since my office has lots of natural sunlight that makes lighting adjustment with my web cam challenging. This is bright enough to amp up the overall lighting near me enough for it to register on my camera in spite of the natural lighting outside. My office has very dim lights and does not have blinds or curtains, so my camera is awful and always misreads the natural lighting of the room, making me look like a shadow on screen without this lamp.
The lamp looks very nice and has a few different lighting levels. Its big enough to provide effective lighting, but small enough to place it just about anywhere you can supply it with power. It almost looks like a picture frame at first glance.
I'd recommend this for the help with energizing you at the start of your day, and just as a lamp with great lighting for video calls (or just in general if you can use a stylish lamp somewhere in your home). I personally did not feel any impact or change to my natural inclination to stay up late, so it didn't appear to impact that part of my circadian rhythm, but it works better than I expected in general, and I would say that I do sleep more deeply and wake more energized since I've been using this, in spite of still staying up late. Its a solid, and very bright lamp.

5-Star Monitor, but 2-Star instructions
on June 1, 2021
Posted by: RedOmen
from Lansing, MI
This monitor has a beautiful screen for 4K gaming, and has a very easily adjustable stand that allows you to tilt, pivot, rotate, raise and lower the screen as desired. The actual base of the monitor is built in such a way that it allows you to turn the entire base shaft left or right without turning the base platform itself. The screen is visible from multiple angles without losing its integrity, and the entire device was extremely easy to assemble within minutes.
M y biggest issue with the monitor is the lack of instructions for how to adjust the actual picture on the screen, and all of the functions for visual manipulation. I spent time trying to find the graphics menus to really test the features, and eventually I accidentally stumbled onto the monitor options (you have to press the rotating knob in (like a button) in order for you to access the wide variety of settings and options available to customize your 4K viewing experience.
Once in the menu, there are a large variety of items to choose from that give the picture new life. The original setting it was on was a racer setting that seemed a little washed out, but there were several settings that really showed off the brightness and color pallet of this monitor. Although there are options for you to adjust just about every setting imaginable to your exact taste, I loved many of the preset options as they were. I watched a few 4K videos on it at one point, and noticed that my preferred settings were not the same for video viewings as they were for the games I played on it. I mostly figured out how to navigate the rotary button alongside the other 4 buttons on the reverse side of the bottom right of the monitor, but this also took time to figure out through trial and error. Once you know what your doing, it becomes a bit more intuitive, but definitely not in the beginning.
Monitor is very responsive during game play, and both games and videos looked exceptionally well. The Portrait mode rotation was also excellent when I did more productivity-based work on it. At 28" this gave me all the screen real estate I could need just short of using one of my TV sets as a monitor. It has some weight to it, so if you are planning to move your monitor frequently, you may want a smaller size that this one, at least with this brand.
I would recommend this monitor for gaming or productivity needs, as the picture quality is great, the menu graphics options are helpful and plentiful, and the screen is very flexible/easy to position & adjust. If there were better instructions with it, I would definitely have given this 5-Stars, but I'm taking it down to 4 since I've provided more instructions in this review than what came with the device for adjusting the graphics settings. Would highly recommend to anyone, but would probably have to send anyone I knew personally some of my own type-written instructions for adjusting the graphics.
(Hopefully the lack of instructions just means my device was missing something, or I overlooked a pamphlet somehow.)

Something doesn't feel quite right... but it works
on March 18, 2021

I was looking forward to using this product and ditching (or at least reducing) my floss usage, but not sure I'll toss the floss away just yet.
It comes with 6 different tips to spray down your pearly whites, and has 10 pressure settings to choose from. There is a base with a water dish on top, a magnetized charging adapter, and a spray nozzle attached to the front with a circular cord. You charge the base and then use the water basin and powered spray nozzle independent of the charging cord.
I powered the device on after charging and it began to vibrate almost violently, including the spray nozzle itself; the sound it was making sounded like I was breaking concrete with a drill; the coiled cable made it uncomfortable to position the spray nozzle (this was more in my head, as I did not have trouble maneuvering, but kept thinking I would, due to the rigidness of the cord). It retains a charge well from what I can tell. I haven't had it 4 weeks yet, but I'm a few days in and it is going strong off my initial charge.
Once the nozzle is in your mouth, every thing feels fine. I was on the lowest setting and it felt fairly high pressures, so I cannot imagine anyone using level 10 unless they are using this to powerwash their deck.
Overall, it feels fine, but there are lots of visual and auditory things that will make you feel as though something is seriously wrong (and maybe there is something wrong with my unit). I think I was expecting it to be quiet and very still, neither of which were the case with my unit. If you can get past all of the distractions, this is not a bad device, but getting past all of those things is a big ask for anyone. I'd have to have a detailed talk with anyone considering this product, to prepare them for the experience.

Excellent Features & Quality
on December 14, 2020
Posted by: RedOmen
from Lansing, MI
The quality of this camera was eye-opening, to say the least. The picture quality (color, with color night vision) will leave you wondering if it is a high-end web camera or a security device. It captures video and snap shots in great, full, HDR color, and is equipped with a spot light as well.
The Arlo 4 allows for voice communication through the camera itself, as well as activation of the built-in security alarm. It also has a wide array of personalization options, including the option of using the camera through a virtual smart hub or by connecting it wirelessly to a base station (which I appreciate, as I have a 2- camera Arlo set-up through a base station and was able to add this to it).
As someone who already owns 2 Arlo wireless cameras, and who has had good experiences with them, there was an established level of quality expected, and I am elated to say the Arlo 4 exceeded that bar in almost every way.
The one thing that I thought would be easier with this device that turned out to be slightly behind my previous Arlo cameras is the synching process & instructions. The only instructions here are a pamphlet saying go to the web site or download the app for instructions, and unless you have used one of these specific type of cameras before, you will likely not be able to assemble the device on your own. Since this device is app-dependent (or at least net dependent) , you'd want to download the app anyways, but they could at least show you how to install the battery/assemble the device, or how to use the charging cord, in the hard-copy instructions (it's a cool, modern, magnetized connector that I've never seen before).
All that aside, once you download the app, it literally takes you through very simple, easy, concise, and clear instructions to assemble and activate (or sync) the camera. There was a moment during set-up when the device wasn't recognized by my base station, but the app instructions intuitively pivoted to manual sync instructions, which was quick with the camera's built-in sync button.
I've knocked off a star for not having hard-copy assembly instructions, and for the extra step to sync it with my previous base station, but this camera is extremely high quality, has an undeniably strong set of features, and is easy to set up (in spite of my preference for hard-copy instructions). I'd definitely recommend this to anyone in the market for a wireless security camera, especially since owners of base stations can add one of these to a pre-existing camera set, or upgrade their cameras to these. Solid product.

Insane in the Membrane, for Sure!!! Great Bundle!
on September 23, 2020
Posted by: RedOmen
from Lansing, MI
Logitech continues to innovate and lead the field in making exceptionally useful and memorable computer accessories, and this Mouse-keyboard bundle is no different.
I was doubtful of the promises made for this tech., especially when I first unboxed the device to feel the "membrane" covered keys (it felt like the keys were covered in human skin!). Once I used it for a full day of work, my concerns were laid to rest, as I found the keyboard and mouse to actually be more user friendly with the near-silent/muted typing, and buffered keystrokes seemed to increase the ease at which I typed. The mouse also had a near-silent/muted button click, which makes you rely more on your sense of touch rather than listening for a click. This has been great to use during virtual meetings on Zoom, and allows me to do more in meetings without accidentally typing into my web camera's microphones.
Everything else is the typical Logitech quality, with great tracking on the mouse and excellent response from the keyboard and mouse through the dongle. Both the mouse and the keyboard use batteries, but are said to have great longevity in the product documents.
I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a great Mouse/ Keyboard bundle, membrane-covered keys aside. The fact that the near-silent /muted tech. is on board just puts this way head of anything else out there, especially if you are working from home doing Zoom meetings in which you may need to talk and type at the same time. This is a great tech-infused bundle for anyone.

Great Overall Mouse, with unique wheel experience
on September 23, 2020
Posted by: RedOmen
from Lansing, MI
I own two mice of the previous version of this mouse, and was excited to see what an updated version could offer. The original experience was exceptional and fun for a mouse, and while this updated version offers the same high level of functionality, the fun factor of the wheel has been dialed down and modified on this version.
For newcomers to the MX Anywhere, this mouse can work purely from bluetooth or with the use of a dongle, with there being no noticeable difference between the two. You can also use it while it charges by connecting it to your PC with a USB cable (Type-C on this version). Battery life is great, and it is equipped for gaming (albeit with less functionality with the wheel-related features). As with most Logitech mice, it can pretty much track across any surface, including glass, fabric, and skin.
The wheel is where returners to this product line will find the most variations, as the wheel no longer shifts side to side (left to right), and no longer has the highly enjoyable option to switch from a regular scroll to a freeform scroll by clicking down on the wheel itself. The wheel still has a fast scroll mode, but it is now accessed by moving the mouse as though it is free scrolling, which causes a light vibration in the wheel while it responds as though you are free scrolling. While I can appreciate the tech that makes something like this possible, I personally find the active free scroll wheel of the older version to be more enjoyable than this new simulated experience.
File transfer between two PCs through the mouse is still intact, as is the ability to load three preset bluetooth devices into the mouse. It is still very quick and intuitive to connect the mouse via bluetooth.
Overall, I still find this mouse to be among the best wireless mice that one can get, and most will find this to be a 5 star mouse. As someone who used the previous version, Im docking a star for removing one of the more enjoyable elements of the previous mouse, although some will prefer the new wheel experience (and new comers will have nothing to compare it to). All in all, I highly recommend.

Not as functional as it appears
on August 11, 2020
Posted by: RedOmen
from Lansing, MI
I own other Wi-Fi security cameras that offer features well beyond what you will get here, which in turn drive up their overall cost. This camera is on the less expensive side, but has given up too many features to be of use the way most people would like.
To begin with, the Wi-Fi connection of this camera is 2.4 ghz, meaning you cannot conmect it to a 5 ghz signal. It has an Ethernet port, but most folks would likely opt for the lower signal before fiddling with ethernet cables, especially if mounting this on the ceiling.
Next, the device set-up through the app is a bit taxing. Why do we need two passwords and a username to access the camera, even if we can access through the fingerprint reader? Not a big deal, but it makes it easy to get confused if you ever need to access the device from anywhere other than your primary device. The phone app itself has lots of menu options and customization choices, so once your in, you can cater the device to do exactly as you like, however, none of the features are very responsive and at times seem down right sluggish. This includes the basic live viewing options, as there was a delay of severals seconds before the video caught up (highly noticeable since I own cameras that have a truly live feed).
The most disappointing feature is that the camera is a corded Wi-Fi camera, meaning that it must be connected to its power supply at all times to function at all. Since it is designed to swivel while upside down for ceiling mounting (amd right side up too), its a bit baffling that it would be a wire-dependent camera, as this would require running a long cord up the wall, or drilling to conceal the cord in the wall, or some other inconvenient process to get a power cord connected to the device's average length cord. If you plan to mount this on a ceiling, be prepared to invest in cords, and/or ready to start a home improvement project to hide the cords.
I think this was a missed opportunity, or perhaps just a lower line of this type of camera, but I could not recommend this to anyone who does not want to address the power supply issue or deal with the slow responsiveness of the operating system. I will likely place this in my office at work, since it could sit right side up and be placed next to an outlet (and since it does move in multie directions), but would nkt be able to use it at my home since my ceilings are vaulted with no outlets near the areas where I would place it.
A wired camera is not all bad, especially if spacing and outlets permit it without too much trouble, but most will want the flexibility of wireless powering (be it batteries or corded quick charging) for more functional or discreet placement options. EVERYONE will want a more responsive operating system, which is why I would likely pass on this one if you have the budget to get a camera with a better operating system, cords aside. I was originally going to rate this 2 stars, but I'm giving it 3 since I may be spoiled from my WIRELESS Wi-Fi camera system.

The battery is removable, but is not designed in a way that would allow charging outside of the camera casing. However, the camera casing does use a magnetic connector that would allow you to leave the camera in place and charge without needing to reposition the camera.

It also has a magnetic base stand that would allow taking the camera from a perch without needing to dislodge the stand or undue any fastening.

There may be some sort of charger available for the battery alone, but if there is, it is not included with this camera.

does anyone know if this flash drive will download a movie that is more than 4.67 GB? I read somewhere that some drives cannot handle if file is larger than 3.0 GB? is that true for this drive? thank you for your time

I transferred 24 GB of info in a matter of minutes with this drive, so a file of less than 5 GB should not be a problem at all.

Use this Rocketfish 2-Output HDMI Splitter with 4K at 60Hz and HDR Pass-Through to create two outputs with one HDMI signal. It has a plug-and-play interface with no setup necessary, and it has full 4K and HDR compatibility to accommodate the latest visual displays. This Rocketfish HDMI splitter retains the sound and image quality of the original input.

Hello! I want to add 2 monitors to my laptop. Will this product allow me to extend my display to 2 monitors with 1 hdmi port on my computer? I want to see different things on each monitor. Thank you!

No, this will only allow you to duplicate 1 source onto 2 screens. To my knowledge, there is no simple way to do what you want to do (split 1 HDMI signal into 2 separate independent signals). There may be a way to do this through USB ports, but the quality would be questionable.

If you have a laptop that is compatible with a docking station, some docking stations come with 2 HDMI ports and would potentially allow for what you are attempting to do.

Also, if you happen to have a DVI port on your laptop, there are converters for switching DVI ports to HDMI ports.

I am certainly no expert, and there could be some device relessed tomorrow that allows for what you are asking, but this is what I gathered back when I was originally researching this product about where this stands today.

Carry your gear easily with this compact Solo backpack. Constructed of heavy-duty parachute nylon, its fully padded compartments protect your laptop and tablet, and the zippered organizer and side pockets provide plenty of storage. This 17.3-inch Solo backpack has Velcro fasteners to keep accessories secure and padded straps for extra comfort.

Will the Alienware 17 R4 fit in this bag?

If it actually meSures 17.3 inches, then it should be able to fit the pouch fine. The compartment that the laptop pouch is in is even larger, and could fit a slightly larger 17+ inch laptop. If you are not sure, it might be best to visit bestbuy and try out the pouch on a similarly sized laptops (a best buy employee used a demo laptop of the same size as my gaming laptop to test out different bags for me, and not all 17.3 inch bags could fit it as the manufacturer claimed).
